^ No, actually it`s easy to do that, you put a captor that catches the light : if it`s on there`s nothing, if it`s off, you play a note. And you shouldn`t be able to see a straight ray like that, there should be some smoking device in his basement.

Edit : I was answering to Angel_of_something

V : try to see the beam of a 1$ laser ... you won`t. But shake a dusty pillow and you will.

this can be done but rhe lasers would have to be going into a sensor i believe. And i can`t really tell 100% but it does look like they are indeed hitting sensors

It probably has a photon detection device at the end of each laser, and when light is interrupted it sends the corresponding info to the synth. I`m not saying its easy, I just say its a more probable assumption than Angel_of_Odin`s pessimistic approach at internet videos.
