American is the only super power left, that should be obvious to anyone.

South Korea though really does have a kick ass army. The north has about 750,000 more people in theirs, but the south has better training, technology, support, and Koreans form the north love the south. The south would destroy the north, and even seriously fuck up China, but probably loose since Chinas has more people then they do bullets.

I was in the USAF stationed in south Korea for a year and most people hated us because we where in there turf and some thought they could take the north by themselves. But there where some that loved us. The north had missiles that could hit seoul 50 seconds after launch. North Korea has the best special forces in the world. So they would always show us what way they could come in and to always stay frosty.

^yeah I`ve been to Pusan and you`re right, alot of Koreans hate the US presence there but I find that its moreso the younger generations that feel this way. The older generations that can remember the sacrifices made by the UN troops especially the Americans are EXTREMELY thankful for us and even conduct their own "pro-American marches" after the well-televised "anti-American marches".

South Korean troops are far superior troops to their Northern counterparts. Look at the NK troops gaurding the DMZ, those are their largest and best fed troops yet they still look stick thin and with horrible posture compared to the Southern troops who are in that Judo stance for hours staring them down.

The American gaurds are pretty badass as well because there is a heigh requirement and they dont wear jackets/ponchos or wear sunglasses (considering the weather in the DMZ, this looks very intimidating).

The U.S. has a 50 year plan to completely leave South Korea military wise. Most of all the bases are already being shut down and turned back over to the government.

The problem most of the younger generation has is the fact that American troops and people under SOFA status basically get to bypass Korean law if they do something wrong, like commit murder. This was part of the first agreement made with the South Korean government towards having troops/ helping them in times of war. The RoK just never got around to changing the agreement.

So, I can understand some about not liking troops, but come on. The government invited America to stay as a deterrant to the North, so not like we were there by force. (Unlike other countries right now.) And plans are already underway to leave completely, so yeah. No biggie.
