So this guy was well paid to be in the military and kill a few Arabs for 2 and a half years. Now expects to be given a home and a job. In the real world one plans a career gets experience and uses it to advance one`s career.
This vet is a looser (if 2.5 years in the navy can be called service) my farther did 6 years in the navy 1939 to 1945, came out with a suit and £50,( £1,425.37 in todays money) then got on with his life. NO pension No help to reintegrate. So I was smart enough not to get involved in killing people for money.

Whingers and spongers, for once I support Fox news, and that takes a lot.

hey ratbag, you ever served? i see you were quick to mention that your father served, but obviously since YOU DIDNT, you have no right to comment on his situation. the only people that can make comments about their situation are those that have experienced it, you know, VETERANS.

secondly, i would not call $24,000 a year "paid well". seems to me that if he was as well paid as you think, THEY WOULDNT BE SLEEPING UNDER BRIDGES! you`re dad had £50 of 1950`s money you dumbshit...ever heard of inflation? and oh yeah, he gets benefits. you know, if he loses an arm he gets pain medication for the rest of his life. maybe HE`s one of the lucky homeless vets that has all of his arms and legs. ever stop to think about that?

you sicken me. the fact that these brave men and women served this country come home to nothing and nowhere to go should be enough to piss you off. instead, your head is shoved so far up your ass you forgot what the fuck you were talking about.

For once i agree with ratbag1410 sorry mattytheory but that is the way real life is noone gives you anything .If he is makeing 2400 a year that should been enough for him to realize and plan ahead since he is in military and 1. he may have to leave because of injury or 2. Leave on his own.Its not goverments job to baby people or kids of stupid parents who dont teach there kids the tools they need in life. If i quite my job or you quite your job what will they give you JACK SHIT a Good Luck and walk out the door with your stuff in a box.

I served in the Navy. I recently got out. Some things this homeless vet says don’t ring true. 1st off, the Navy does offer Transition Assistance classes. Its almost impossible to get out without going through the class. Also, 2 1/2 years in the Navy? The minimum hitch in he Navy is 4 years. If you get out at 2 1/2 years, something happened. This guy may have gotten out on an other than honorable discharge or for medical/psychological reasons. I’m not trying to bolster Bill’s claims. I know there are plenty of vets out there who are hurting and do need help. I just think that whoever interviewed this guy should have looked into his background a little better.

@Ninjzz: i see what you are saying, but all i was trying to convey was that the government wants these guys to go over there and face hell and they promised them that they would be taken care of if worse came to worse. well, if the government renegged on that simple promise, then what else are they willing to go back on? also, you cant just leave the military or you are thrown in prison for being a deserter. you might be a volunteer, but you have to sign a contract to join up.

I have to wonder though why some vets come back from a war zone, broken and wind up homeless. And how other vets come home from a war zone, and continue on.

My Grandfather was a Marine Raider in the south pacific, fought in all the major battles and survived. He came back, got married raised a family and pretty much lived out the so called American dream. Now anyone aware of the south pacific will know it was some of the most brutal, horrid fighting in WW2. I just wonder how some people can handle it, and others just...cant.

OMG: "You`re all mentally ill so you`re not our problem!!!" .... Like there`s no link between being sent to war for dubious reasons (to put it mildly) and having to kill people who you don`t hate and witnessing all sorts of horrors - and veterans developing phsycological issues? I`m not agreeing with BillO that they`re all mentally ill, but the government has even more responsibility to the ones that are cause chances are it was brought on by what happened when they were serving.

I agree that Bill is an ass but i wouldn`t exactly say that a guy who served on an air craft carrier is a traumatised combat vet. Whatever his problems i don`t think they are related to war scars.
