Glitchen, you`re my hero (well, right after Hitchens)!

Good stuff. The introductions are a perfect preview to the world views being debated; listen to Hitchens` bio, with all its prestigious publications and associations. Then what`s the first item on Boteach`s CV? His collaboration with Oprah. Oy vey!

You can almost predict the rest based just on that, though it`s fun to see it progress. Hitchens does a superb job deconstructing the jealous, tribal Bronze age god of war, obsessed with manifest destiny and mutilating foreskins.

Y`know, after centuries of this dysfunctional, abusive relationship between Jehova and his "chosen people", you`d think that, of all people, the Jews would be fed up with God`s BS. I`m so happy my own Jewish ancestors were atheists who saw the myth of god as something that actually impaired the Jewish people rather than improved their condition, and in any case was wholly unnecessary. As Rabbi Hillel said famously centuries ago, the essence of Judaism, of any ethical system, can be summed up easily while standing on one foot: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. The rest is commentary".

I believe that if Rabbi Hillel were alive today, he`d be on Hitchens side in the debate, and conclude that "god" is just commentary, too.

On another note, talk about probabilities and mutation:

-The mechanisms that duplicate DNA and other genetic stuff, carefully check the copies. Just how carefully, is ALSO encoded. So, some things cannot be duplicated with error, while other things are not well checked, and can drift more easily. Suprise suprise, it is important to survival that stupid errors are not allowed, while potentially beneficial errors are let to slip through.

-All modern life has the same very fundamental mechanisms of primitive single cell life. We (plants, animals, bacteria, everything alive today) are a recent but minor elaboration on a basic system (the cell) that evolved for billions of years before things started to get big and fancy.

-Billions of years, times the size of the earth, times the rapid breeding cycle of single cell life, equals a larger number than we have notation for. Every bit of limestone on this planet, and many other rocks as well, are SOLID FOSSIL BLOCKS composed of (insert stupidly huge number) of experiments at living. It is there that the cellular basis of us was hewn. We cannot dissect those fossils, but they exist by the solid terra-ton all about us. Once living proof of the size of this proliferation.

-The only transitionals we outh to expect should be in early single cell life, because after that era, most things change in fairly productive ways most times.

-We barely understand the whole process. Seeking god will not lead us to answers. The idea of evolution surely does.

"Never buy cracklin` from a mohel." :) That quote from Hitchens made sitting through the rabbi`s ignorance totally worthwhile.

I really wish the rabbi could have focused on the important issues and obvious falsehoods of religion rather than attacking the broad side of a barn that is Hitchens`s rabid anti-theistic demeanor.

Well one thing I`d say is that it`s frustrating to see someone say there would be nothing like love or humanity or charity or honour without religion, namely the ten commandments..
So that stuff never ONCE existed before 4000 years ago? Come on, how arrogant is that?
(Edit: Damn, just as I was writing this Hitchens fired the same thing back to the Rabbi at around 1:21:00)

For being on the unpopular side of the debate he at least was passionate about it and I think held his ground. I still think he`s deluded, but I respect him for that.

I wonder who ended up buying the books? lol

lol i cant believe people are arguing these 2 sides still. its sad how nobody can realize that neither side will win. this is one of the many reasons i do not believe in evolution or creation, its something that should not mater, and people will believe anything you tell them in accordance to religion or science.

Spot on Hitchens. Well done....By the way one of our galaxy`s many imperfections and "design" flaws is never mentioned during these debates. That would be the trouble with our ever distancing moon, which is slowly moving away from the earth at nearly 3.8 centimeters a year. This may appear meaningless but this will destabilize the entire world in millennium`s to come. The moon stabilizes the earths wobble on its axis, more or less keeping the earth from erratically wobbling on it`s axis, so in essence it acts as a counter balance. So obviously the further away the moon gets the less gravitational force there is to stabilize the earth. This means of course as the earth`s axis tilts more dramatically there would be no steady seasons to grow food and the planet would become very unstable for life to function. What a great design.

Hitchens formulates all his arguments on fact, reason, and logic. He poses factual arguments, and gets nothing but circular arguments bases on human wishful thinking and moral nonsense. He never poses a shred of reason, fact or logic to provide proof that contradicts Hitchen`s arguments.
