There are no optical drives so you need to get apple`s "special" optical drive accessory or you need to send data from another computer. Hmmm...kinda defeats the purpose of having a super thin laptop, doesn`t it?

Not to defend the Mac Air but $3k is for the model with the SSD hard drive. It`s $1,800 for the vanilla Mac Air.

Everyone forgot to mention that there is only one USB port and no ethernet port. Plain stupid. One more Apple product that follows form over function.

Only 1 USB unfortunately.

The Mac Air reminds me of a car that doesn`t have doors like the General Lee or other cars that you have to get through the window. Looks good but is more of a hassle just for it to look good.

They should of made the screen touch sensitive and swivel around then lay down flat on the keyboard. That`s what everyone was wanting. An ultra portable Mac or tablet Mac. Not an ultra thin laptop that has pretty much the same footprint as their smaller MacBook, less inputs/outputs, less powerful, and way more expensive.

^You mean like HP`s TX model laptops? Some higher models of that series actually have a touch screen that you can write on and it allows you to use it like a tablet by just swiveling the screen. speakers are on the screen along with the power button and audio control. Pretty decent laptop if thats what you`re into. Will run you only ~$1000, or if you want the 2000 series which is a lot better $1200 base and up to $2100 with all the goodies.
Yeah it won`t fit into a manila envelope but why the hell not.

seriously guys? the air is not that expensive ($1800) for what it is, that being ultralight (3lbs) and ultrathin. i don`t agree with the choice for no optical drive but it serves its purpose for most of apple`s laptop customer demographic just fine. when was the last time you used your optical drive away from home anyway?

what this accomplishes for apple is to keep them appearing ahead of the curve to the general populace. in this way they will sell more of their "bread and butter" computers once people get in the store. it is really a solid marketing plan for the apple brand.

it`s not my choice, but i`m not gonna knock anyone who chooses to get one. then again, i`m not an asshole like you all are, fuck yourselves.
