Your right. It`s insanely difficult for developers to make a game so mindblowly simple and filled with unoriginal content that the masses of players wont find interesting or fun.

Companies need to just forget about Blizzard and try to focus on makeing a GOOD MMO, instead of trying to win the numbers game. WoW has alot of players because it doesn`t take a monster PC to play and a 12 year old could figure out what to do. Start on the grounds of making a good MMO and players will flock to it eventually.

That being said, if WoW is the "best" MMOs will ever get. Then I have no hope for the genre at all.

It seems like there can only really be one super popular game in each genre because everyone wants to get really good compared to everyone else. and a couple of laggers eg; DOD to CS or Command and Conquer to Warcraft.

WoW is 100% about raiding, and raiding is boring as fuck... people get hooked, and most end up staying just because of the time they put in or friends they made before they figured out how much the game sucked.

MorphingJar you should look into Eve online. I played the demo and it seemed like a great game, I just don`t have the time/money to get involved in it.

Well put MorphingJar, I was a fan of Planetside, but Sony`s attempt at an MMORPGFPS was a somewhat failed attempt. I did like the concept and I stayed into it for a little while, but it gets boring.
