You forget, this was before internet. This was when people only knew what others told them. This was when book-reading people were geeks and dorks, and when having an IQ above 80 was considered smart, where everyone worshipped God and those who didn`t were serial killers and rapists.

The internet isn`t much better. Sure you can browse at whim, but there`s so much shit information, so many propaganda sites, so much biased bullshit (just look at Spiked and see for yourself), you`ll never find the truth unless you spend a month looking for it.

This isn`t new, either. Before TV there was the paper, written and distributed differently all across the world with no reporting whatsoever; so that nobody got the real story or anything like it. Before that there was what the king wanted you to hear, and you heard it. Before that, you heard rumors and prophecies about what had happened.

Maybe. Just maybe, we`ll find an incorruptible system someday. Maybe.

I agree with everything he says, except the part where turning to God is the only place you`re going to find "truth" LOL. It`s amazing how prophetic this movie was though -- the part about huge corporations running the TV media (FOX, MSNBC, etc.).

Keep the masses dulled by som random sosial pornography and we can get away with anything. Just churn out shit like Big Brother and we can steal their coutch from right under em.
But we cant forget to give them the illusion they are in controll. So we paint them a picture, sprinkle som cookie crums here and there and tell them to persive the world as is most convinient. We call it news and slap a "fair and balanced" sticker on it. And we can, why? because ignorace is pretty fucking easy!
We dont need free tought and critial thinking. Thats conter productive, as long as your able to swing a hammer, your what god wants.

I don`t think the same applies to the internet. The internet is still pretty much unregulated (although big powers are trying to change that). Although there`s alot of crap on the internet, it is a medium for information, discussion and debating. It is not owned (yet) by 4-5 corporations like TV, radio, and print.

Got more info from the "tube" than I did from my parents to create unbiased opinions about everday life. Got entertainment. Got education. My 2 main hobbies I would never have known about if I didn`t watch the "tube".

So yeah.... the writer`s an asshole trying to score points with the dregs of an era that was barely still alive when this clup came around.

What are you a fucking moron? So why do you even watch SH clips? Lot`s of them are awesome TV clips. At no point in your life did you ever learn how to change the channel or turn off the TV? Yeah there`s some people addicted to TV out there. But there`s more people addicted to the internet. Then there`s MMOGs, porn, drugs, religion, politics, junk food, sex, sports, fake religions, individuals, money, material, alcohol, pets, sun baking, give you another 100? All bad for you in the long run. But at least on TV you can decide when you watch it and what you`re watching.

Don`t think I`ve ever known someone or heard of someone to watch so much TV that it is of any concern. And that`s a hell of a lot of people.

We accept the broadcast version of normality as normality, so something that may seem hugely damaging to an outsider becomes accepted as nothing to worry about. Someone who smokes a bit of pot every week or two is classed as a criminal and thought by many to have a problem, while someone who devotes a massive chunk of their existence to absorbing whatever the box in the corner of their living room projects at them is considered to be living a perfectly balanced life.

Of course it`s not just about individuals wasting their time, it`s about the deadening of creativity and the spirit of rebellion, and wrapping people in a comfortable layer of cotton wool so that they remain blind and dispassionate about what`s really going on.
