The Iraq War: Legal Or Illegal?

Pinky wants some answers: Is the U.S.-led invasion and occupation of Iraq legal or illegal? Do any of the charges of illegality we`ve been hearing about have any legal basis at all? And why should we even care about international law anyway? Pinky and friends do the research and then tell you all the answers!

i hope bush gets prosecuted for war crimes. he deserves what ever is coming to him because, thanks to him, almost four thousand american soldiers have been killed, an estimated twenty-eight thousand american soldiers wounded (many with dramatically life-altering injuries), and hundreds of thousands of iraqis under his watch, under his orders! and, many million more iraqis are displaced by this illegal war. i just hope that he has made all of his cronie-buddies happy with their war profiteering.

Much as I oppose the Death Penalty, I really do believe that Bush should hang for his war crimes, as should many of those behind this illegal war, and the murder that has resulted.

Bush certainly deserves nothing short of a life sentence, and the problem with that is, as he grows old, it will be harder and harder to justify and defend the imprisonment of an old man. If Hitler had survived WWII, and if he had been imprisoned in Spandau, for example, instead of hanged, the image of a tottering, decrepit old man would have have increased the risk that Hitler would become an object of sympathy, along with his crimes. That cannot happen with Bush.

Finally, those who mete out the sentence should rightfully be those who were wronged the most; the Iraqis themselves. In just the same way they tried, sentenced and hanged Saddam for his crimes against his own people, Iraqis should have the right to do the same to Bush, the foreign dictator who is responsible for just as much suffering as Saddam, if not more.

The most fitting punishment would be for the very same noose that graced Saddam`s neck to be dug out, dusted off (minimally) and placed around Bush`s...then bury Bush and Saddam side by side.

Bush *will* pay for his war crimes. Perhaps not soon, but I`m positive that, over the next few years, a popular movement to see justice done will grow and succeed.

Barring that, there is always the chance (hope) for vigilante justice.

Either one is fine.

I would disagree klavlav, I don`t think Bush should get the death penalty, as much as i hate him... heres my reason:

Given the power and influence of the Bush family and all the people who support them, I don`t think its totally unreasonable to think that his execution could be faked... "OK, GWB is gone now... you can forget about him, move on".

I think it would be much better if he were to receive multiple life sentences in a high security prison - a place where people (fellow inmates, prison guards and visiting journalists) could see for themselves that he is being punished for as long as possible.

Once again..

"The unlawful use or threatened use of force or violence by a person or an organized group against people or property with the intention of intimidating or coercing societies or governments, often for ideological or political reasons."

Based on that definition, the American Government is the biggest Terrorist organization in the world..

Agreed, but you need to be more consistent. You should apply the same standards not only against government and military agression, but also against the unwarrented police brutality you so slavishly cheerlead here on Spiked.

They`re different manifestations of the same phenomena.

The overbearing, unconscious, brute force of a soldier in Iraq, invested wih authority by his (invading) government to use unbridled force instead of diplomacy is simply an internationalised version of the overbearing traffic cop who, invested with that same authority, rushes to force and violence as a first resort rather than the final one.

The cop tazing a woman pre-emptively, under the pretense that she "might" become violent, instead of just talking with her is little different from the illegal, premeptive violence we see on the part of the US military in places like Iraq.

Sure there are differences, but there are far more similarities.

The US is the world`s cop. The line between `cop` and `soldier` is blurring., and they are blurring it. For years now, US police have undergone increasing militarisation, being equipped with hi-tech, high-power military hardware, and often joining with state and federal military forces in things like drug raids, in direct violation with the US`s Posse Comitatus Act (often with disastrous results, like in Waco and Ruby Ridge).

Similarly, the military has been tasked with far more police-type roles, operating in urban environments, arresting suspects, conducting investigations, handling forensics and patrolling - things that are often far outside the military pervue.

What`s more frightening, though, is the *mentality*, the idea that force is natural, easy, normal and justified, "good".

As I`ve mentioned, I`ve trained police officers. The training I received and that I pass on says that force is actually the sign of failure. Resorting to force means the other tools that should have worked, like dialogue and diplomacy, failed, perhaps through no fault of one`s own, but a failure nonetheless.

The US has failed in Iraq. You rightly hold them accoutable for that. So many of the cops in the vids here on Spiked are similar failures; we should be just as critical of them as we are of their military counter-parts.

WOW. Such intelligent and well thought out responses I`m impressed. I half expected most of you to be like "KILL HIM!! KILL THAT MOTHER FUCKER NOW!!!!!!"

Or...

"Anonymous, forget Scientology and go after Bush!"

Hmm that`s actually a good idea. Anon should disseminate this information. They are in the public eye right now so they could start an info war on Bush and his administration. I agree that Scientology is an evil organization but all of our freedoms and life`s and our economy is at stake with bush and his lackeys in the white house.

Anonymous if you see this. Think about it.

i`d have to agree with you "ArtDragonDream", it IS sad when cartoon cats make the most sence out of everyone. but the cats are right, who`s going to step up and stop the US from doing anything. the us seems to be run by people who have no feelings towards doing "the people" harm. they do what they want because they can do it. they can rig elections, they can acuse people of doing terrable things (even if they didn`t) and use that for going to war, they can even inprison people for standing up to them. having this much power just isn`t right.

absolute power corrupts absolutely!

no nation better shows this than the US.

I think we are setting our sights to high. I think we need to targets our local community before we go for the head. Did you know that there are several states, mostly Montana, north Dakota and south Dakota that are comprised mostly of native Americans that are actually very close to seceding from the united states. The native American communities are so fed up with what the government is doing they want to become there own nation. Permanently separated from the US. If we wanted to we could support them or create our own grassroots movement to do the same. All wee need to do is compile this information and present it to the people a much as we can. THIS information is the smoking gun that could convince even the most stubborn ignorant person out there. Just tell your friends about this. Email the link to this video to EVERY PERSON in your mailing list. You don`t have to print flayers or get up and speak to people just spread this everywhere you can from the seat you are in right now. The more people are informed the less likely they are to be victimized by our government.

THIS IS THE RED PILL!!!!!! ...in animated cat form...

The animated cat made one mistake.

The U.N. Security Council was designed to keep the power of the U.N. in the hands of the founders of the U.N., the United States, Great Britain, etc.
