For all of you who just started watching, stop. Water turns blue then clear, over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over. no explosions, no climax. just the repeat of the same thing like an episode of friends. delt_osvp - u owe me 1:09

Ah hahahaha.

Our chem professor at UCLA did this demonstration in class and called it the BRUIN REACTION. Get it, because our colors our blue and yellow.

That was three years ago, so I forget what the point was. I think it has to do with the particular chemical having a unique sort of equilibrium.

Materials: Make 2.5 liters of each:
A) Starch: 4g/L ( 10g/2.5 L
A) NaHSO3 (sodium bisulfite): 15g/L ( 37.5g/2.5L
B) HgCl2 (mercury II chloride): 3g/L ( 7.5g/2.5L
C) KIO3 (potassium iodate): 15g/L ( 37.5g/L

Explanation:
Three colorless solutions are mixed in sequence, and the mixture remains colorless for several seconds. Then, an orange precipitate forms suddenly throughout the mixture. Then turns black after a few seconds.

yeah the actual chemistry behind it is too complex for most spiked users just look at the pretty colors

Saw an oscillating reaction like this at a college demo. I believe the change in colour is due to the fluctuation of the concentration of iodine ions in the solution. At least that was the description that the professor gave us.

I don`t know why but videos about chemical reactions, Japanese people and high-tech innovations always get to the front page.
