Of course. How typical. Fuck up the country for 8 xenu damned years and the only time you even consider congress is when it`s supposed to save your ass.

We need to get shit together. I`m an American, but Bush and his ilk sure as shit aren`t.

Haha, I love it. Good `ol CNN, they`re experts at taking things out of context. Everyone bitches and bitches about detainees not getting rights, then they get some, and everyone bitches about that. The provision they`re going on about here says that noone can be retroactively prosecuted for war crimes that WEREN`T ON THE BOOKS AT THE TIME. I love how you guys have to twist reality around to find something to cry about.

^^ Actually the Geneva convention has been around for decades. Its the accepted international standard on human rights. Bush et co. tried to circumvent it by declaring the prisoners non-enemy combatants. Since it is really about those fundamental human rights, when that "spin" on the legality of how they were treating prisoners was overturned (as was inevitable) the government knew they were in trouble, hence the pathetic push for changing the law. The sad part is that it actually passed. Actually there are many sad and pathetic parts about the past 8 years and Americas` collective lack of cahones to make hold the Bush administration responsible. If the Bush administration was leading a Baltic or African nation they`d already be hauled before the hague. As it stands now, the US will have a hard time reversing any of this precisely because the lack of outcry will be seen as a tacit approval. The precedent will have been set.

Actually, do some research, Canada(my country) isn`t much better and could go the way of the US when the shit hits the fan in a few years. The banks run our economy and our gov`t is attempting to squash free speech. It just isn`t talked about much and Canadians seem to be more caught up in US politics than our own.

^^ i aprove the motion.

The "shoot bush in the face law" is now operative.

See? We can pass laws too!
Law isnt law if it isnt law. <- comment of the year.
So you shoulnt care is you can make the difference between right and wrong when the system is abused like it is right now.

So stand up for what you are and what you believe.
If you dont belive thoses laws are ethicaly and politicaly correct then do not respect them and show you dissaprovement.
Others will follow.
Then, there will be revolution.

i was wondering when they would do this. the US does not follow the geneva convention, even though it always complains about other countries.

on an individual basis i wouldn`t mind if real terrible people and criminals got tortured, but it becomes a problem when the government is allowed to torture in general. who decides who deserves it, and when is it appropriate? if the government has the power to make the decision, how will we protect normal people that are seen as threats against the ppl in power?

Serpico, I don`t know what you`re talking about with the government here trying to supress free speech, but as far as civil liberties and protesting the government goes, we`ve got it far better than in the States. I`m personally not a fan of Harper or the Conservative government, but as far as that`s concerned, our conservatives are more left wing than most liberals in the US.
