Purg sorry if you have already answered this; I would read through the comments of your other videos but all the nerdy commments regarding 9/11 conspiracy theorists and people wanting to make swords and armor so they can dress up in front of the mirror and be retarded made me want to kick someone in the nuts.

but how long have you been a professional smith? top notch vids btw

Zep, I`ve been a smith for alittle over eleven years now. I do alot of demonstrating. I travel over the South East US doing Renn Faires, French-Indian War, Civel War, etc. Thus my comfort in front of the camera. I was actually justt a few hours short of a dual degree in pysch and bio when I decided to go the way of the smith. Theres a story behind it and perhaps Ill have the chance to tell it on a vid someday. It involves and old master smith. Good stuff. And by the Way, don`t sweat the qeustion Smoking, its just the price of being the smith :)!

Steel when hit gives off a frequency of 20kHz. The reason the Cast Iron gives off a different pitch is due to the pockets of gas trapped inside the metal. These pockets do two things when compared to steel. 1) They deaden the sound, by slowing down the travel time of the sound wave as it makes its way through the metal : Hence the thud, compared to the ring. 2) It weakens the structure, in this case an anvil, and thus is more prone to breaking, and or denting. Which explains why Steel > Cast Iron, in Metal Working...Thanx for the video`s, keep em` coming...

What do you make primarily? whatever you feel like? or do you take orders. if possible i`d like to see you make something simple, real quick like, maybe a hammer or a pot or something

Hey purgatory, I have a little off beat question for you.

Do you have a noticeable difference in strength between your dominant and non-dominant arms? Do you take any extra precautions or conditioning to even out your muscle strengths?

Just something I`ve wondered about, considering that you wield a 6 lb hammer all day long.
