The tool that he uses for his presentation can be found here. And of course, Google has already bought it.

I just absolutely love TED. I wish they can air all of their presentations on tv across the world; get more people out of their ignorances.

I like his message; it`s not GDP that`s important; it`s health, it`s culture, infrastructure, things to accomodate people. Economy is a reflection of that.

Now lets beat that through the eyes of Washington.

There`s something emotionless about statistics, they seem to separate everything, just like how they were colored differently on the screen. I`d rather look at the world as a whole, or atleast chain linked, where if one nation succeeds, they take the surrouding nations with it, and serve as a model for future development, and vice versa. Developing nations now have a better chance than the ones that were in the forefront back in the days. Technology is shared and sold now, so is medicine, food supply, information (thanks to the internet). There`s no number you can give war, bad politics, and religion that weigh heavily on those statistics as well. They`re the things that break the chain thats holding the world together.

We CAN end poverty, but we have to get past the hate.

I get what you are saying crimson but in the specific subject of statistics the whole point is to break down the parts of the whole to its more basic elements so they can be studied. Also, there IS something emotionless about statistics....and toilets. Toilets are made to crap so its not bad that theres something emotionless about them, statistics are used for research so, again, no fault in being emotionless. I recommend looking for emotional satisfaction elsewhere :)

^Yea, should have elaborated more, sorry.

The statistics he was showing was not only the past, but a theoretical future, as shown when he dragged the bar to the far right - into the year 2050. Your toilet certainly can`t do that, lol. That`s absolutely fine, statistics are supposed to be studied, as you say, to predict the future. They take variables, that CAN be observed and recorded, like GDP, life expectancy, carbon dioxide emission, and make an educated assumption on what the future looks like. What I meant by emotionless was the flexibility of those statistics, not the literal meaning. Global warming(effects of CDE), War, and lack of food and resources like oil are probably the most likely hinderance to the development of countries, and a breakstop to those stats - and may completely reverse the already developed ones, and drown them into the ocean!

Rosling gets really excited about the end to poverty, based on those statistics. "The seemingly impossible IS possible" as he puts it himself. I admire the man, he gives me hope. 5/5 for the speech alone. The statistics just didn`t come alive for me to apply it to the year 2050, as it did for him.
