"Gliding" Helicopter

This cool effect occurs when a camera's FPS (frames per second) syncs up with the RPS (revs per second) of a helicopter.

I gotta agree its fake.

the FPS a camera is shooting at is constant, while a helicoptoer flying up and down, braking and turning around will have to adjust its RTS. Thus it would have appears to spin some.

The rotation speed doesn`t change, just the pitch of the blades.

I used to DJ at a club that had a big ass fan for the dance floor and I used to do the same thing with a strobe light. The fan blades looked like they were still but the wind was blowing out like crazy.

My god, not again... This video caused a major discussion a couple of months ago, you can look it up if you want.
Its not fake, it happens because of the FPS = RPS. Its has to do with Nyquist criterium and aliasing, you can look it up if you want to.
Further, the RPM of the helicopter is a constant, regulated by a computer. If the helicopter climbs, its because it adjusts its pitch. During this, the RPM is a constant.

For a change in pitch. lets say to go upwards, you would need more power and higher revs.

yea i got a strobe in my room and you can change the flash speed to match up with the celing fan to make it look like its still and make it look like its going backwards and shit... its pretty trippy

Its` very very hard to keep the RPS that consistant. Im not saying its impossible, but it`s very very hard to do that.

Any adjustment to the cylclic or collective would take a little more power away from the engine for a second. It would adjust the RPS constantly, but there would be times when the blades at least moved a bit!

The only explanation I can see is that he is totally concentrating on the RPS, and letting the heli fly wherever it wants to maintain the RPS.

So basically, what your seeing is a heli that isn`t being controlled at the moment. (just monitored)
