^ya right,you guys just sat their watching the war for years until you got ur asses bombed my japan then you decided to fight back. the french,british,russians and everyone else who fought hitler from day 1 to day 2191 are the one you should be thanking. if it wasn`t from them hitler could of easily overrun all of europe and went to USA and brought total annihilation with him.because at the current time the us was in really bad condition,economically and military

^You blame the US for sitting on their asses yet the same people you say should be honoured, the British, the French and the Soviets, sat on their asses while a weak German took control of the Rhineland, Austria, the Sudentenland and all of the Czech area.

Even when AT war, the French refused to actually attack Germany, in a way. Have you heard of the Sitzkrieg? What did the French do when Germany was at war in Poland? Sat behind the Maginot Line and waited. Even though the German western front was realitively weak, they staged a small operation, which meet with success, but eventually pulled back to the Maginot Line and sat on their asses; like nearly everyone else.

The Soviets fought Hitler from `day 1`? The Soviets signed an agreement with Hitler (Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact); an agreement on a 10 year peace with the Germans. Stalin sat on HIS ASS while Hitler destroyed Western Europe and even participated in the invasion of Poland. The Soviets also took control of the Baltic states and tried to destroy Finland as part of the agreement. This isn`t even mentioning the Soviet`s assistance to the German military even before Hitler came to power. The Soviets came into the war when they were attacked, not because they felt any obligation to help others.

I hate the guy above, such ignorance, such arrogance. That `You`re welcome` bullshit, is, well, bullshit. I understand that this opinion is far to prevelent in the states. But, that`s the states for you.

However, your reaction was bullshit as well. Every major power is too blame for Hitler. Had the USA joined the League of Nations; an organization THEIR president was so addament about, the LofN may have actually had a backbone, and not sat back when Mussolini attacked Africa, Hitler basically shit on Versaille and Hirohito`s soldiers` destroyed China and raped Nanking.

That is to say had the people at Versaille had actually done their job, we wouldn`t have been in that situation. Then there is the war it stopped; had Europe not been led by complete idiots in the early 1900s (read `the Guns of August`, trust me), maybe WW1, and therefore probably WW2, wouldn`t have occured.

Whatever, I have talked for too long, but America may have sat on their asses, but no country is completely innocent. They did a many number of good things in WW2. Helped to retake Africa, liberate Italy, Western Europe, etc, etc. Plus, Lend-Lease meant that the British had a blank cheque in the war and so did the Soviets. With the US, the Soviets would have been fuck logistically. The rebuilding of the Soviets railways after the German scorched earth policy was essential, and where did those tracks and cattle cars come from?

American supply trucks were also essential to the USSR. As one example, Konev`s advance after the Battle of Kursk was nearly unstoppable, and was a significant part of the war. That advance wouldn`t have been nearly as significant without supplies; supplies partly from the US, but deliveried by supply trucks given to the USSR by the US.

I like to rip on the US like anyone else. I would like to say that they were the most wrong in WW2, and they say on their asses (as if that was unique; moreover, it was a THEME of the war); but that conclusion is so far from the truth. But, for the most part, their role in WW2 was pretty positive, and one of the better things they have ever done.

Plus, there is the bullshit about Hitler conquering the US? Stupid consept. Hitler couldn`t have crossed the English Channel (if you honestly think Operation Seelowe could have been a success, you haven`t done enough research), how the fuck was he going to be able to lead a gigantic attack across the Atlantic? Honestly, the first guy is an idiot, but you are no better.

The point of all this is simple really; you can criticize the US for trying to stay out of the war, but don`t compliment a country like the USSR, who tried to do the exact same thing; and only went to war when they were attacked.

Yes, the Soviets were the most important player in the defeat of Hitler, by far really, but don`t criticize the US, because Stalin would have gladly stayed out of the war and watch Western Europe destroy itself.

French surrendered almost immediately. Correct about the British, yes they were in from day one right to the end.

We shouldn`t argue about who was better in the war.

The fact of the matter is, everybody did their part, and we should be thankful to every nation who helped defeat the Nazi regime.

I am extremely grateful for the sacrifices that our great grandfathers and great grandmothers made. You should be too.

My father and uncle were on ships supporting the landings, another uncle was in the air ( in a spitfire) my father in law managed to get as far as Stalingrad. I have discussed these matters with people who were there.
There is a great deal of bullshit spoken and written about the war, some of these kids should think before they hit the keyboard.
GIs showed great bravery in the European theater of war, so did the British, Germans and Russians. ALL were betrayed and let down by their selfgloryfing cowardly leaders.

Enough of the bullshit and the "we are better than you crap!"

Everyone have their part in this wars, no one should be blame for or overly praise for. If any of the countries that have been involved in the war have not done what they did peace would not be possible, that included Germany and Japan.
