Derren Brown is a brilliant mentalist and NLP specialist. You have to really listen and analyze everything he says before you start assuming he is psychic or the messiah.

Derren Brown is really good at what he does, its also great how he doesn`t try and convince people he has special powers or take advantage of people.

There`s also a very real probability that his whole show is a fake with hired actors. It would make huge money, while being entirely fantasy. 100% legal, and OBVIOUSLY more likely than him being a "master" of suggestion.

I don`t watch the show, but I`ve also never seen it WITH MY OWN EYES. Until such time, or pending some impatial review that back up his supposed outstanding skill, the "TV reality" seems by far the more likely. It`s still entertaing.

Very entertaining - I`ve always been fascinated by his show.

Regardless of if the people are actors or not, I still enjoy watching his crazy manipulative shenanigans. Amazing how susceptible people can be to his various physiological techniques.

@ exploder: As a fan of Derren Brown`s work I might be a little biased but I have to ask anyway...
Why would you want to ruin this show for yourself by asking too many questions?
Is there a simple truth to everything? Is everything black or white?

People like to pretend to want to know the truth to everything, but deep down everyone knows ignorance is bliss.

The story goes (not sure if it`s fact or fiction), that he used to work within the legal world and had to stop because he had the power to influence people.

If you`d watched his shows, you`d know that there is very little chance of this being fake in any shape or form. He made his wealth upon truth. In his shows, for certain "tricks" of the mind, he shows the TV viewers exactly how he did it. A perfect example of this would be the Advertising Campaign he asked someone to create. He made an almost exact advertising campaign poster that Derren Brown had in his possesion. The way he did it was by planting lots of suggestive plants along the route the guy took from home to the office. This may have been billboard advertising, straight through to actors holding certain objects.

Watch his shows, then see if you change your mind.

This does not prove that dousing is fake. It only proves that he can manipulate the person through NLP. Dowsers have been making a living for thousands of years finding water and much more. And mind you they do it without someone talking in there ear the entire time manipulating them. In real dowsing there is no chance for suggestion or manipulation.

Read the above link. If its on TV and you believe it your a sucker. An even bigger sucker than it being on the internet. Watching this reminds me of Chris Angel. Anyone who believes this isn`t staged by actors needs to stop using the computer for surfing the internet and enroll in some college classes ASAP.

And its spelled DOWSING... Dousing means to splash water on something or someone.

God and theres an election coming up soon...

This one is good, but there is one that always blows my mind.

Derren and a girl is in london, on the third or above floor. Derren asks the girl to point her hand at someone outside the window who is walking down the street and say stop. So she wait a few minutes and stop a person, the person seems to be confused, like she had remembered something she had forgotten and then turns around and looks straight up at the window the girl is in...

Thats fucking wierd, I mean sure perhaps the person on the street is one of Derrens people, but still in London there like a hundred people at one time and any street.

this only works withhigh flowing water... not with a botle. i have seen it done with my own eyes, and its called devining...

coathangers work well two, but copper rids in a sleave work best from what i heard.


In highschool we went on a trip to a farm and they where digging a well that a deviner found. he was still there looking for another streem, he showed us how it works and it really did?, they hit water 15` dowm...

Complete BS, but a cleverly designed show none the less. People always want to believe that we are able to have "special powers". The simplest explanation is usually correct, they are paid actors, just like Chis Angel`s show.

I think some of you are missing the point here. Derren Brown does not claim to have any kind of "special powers". LD50 is right when he says “Complete BS”. The BS being that dowsing is nonsense. The world is full is mystics, faith healers, clairvoyants and other such bullshit artists claiming that what they do is real; Derren is just showing that he can produce the same effect as them but without making ridiculous claims about magical powers and mystical energies.
I’ve seen his show live on stage during which he lay face down in broken glass while a guy from the audience stood on his head. His explanation for the lack of blood was that he had learned how to control it’s flow around his body. This was demonstrated by another member of the audience tapping out the beat of his pulse against a microphone, which slowly stopped (much to the shock of the women holding his wrist). He couldn’t do this with the same set of performers every night as the show is taped (and anyone going twice would spot the con). If this is all just bollocks, he would have had to employ hundreds of different people, in every city he performs, in every show, to act convincingly on stage during each trick. Not just the 2 people during the broken glass routine but every other section that had various members of the audience up on stage. These people would then have to sign legal agreements to keep quiet or just be trusted to keep their mouths shut for as long as his career lasted
The point of his act is to show how we can be manipulated into doing, saying or even thinking what Derren wants us to think by using well rehearsed techniques. The end of the clip spelled this out to the bearded guy who was totally ready to believe in water dowsing until the fact that it was a trick was revealed in the note.
