What effect does the mass of the player have on the initial velocity of a golf ball? Let`s insert some numbers into the equation and observe the results. We`ll use a 180 pound person. The velocity of the club head will be100 miles per hour. A golf ball weighs 0.1 pounds and the cor of long hitting golf balls is approximately 0.8.

m1 = 180 lbs, m2 = 0.1 lbs, e = 0.8 u1 = 100 mph,

m1
v2 = ----------- (1 + e) u1
m1 + m 2

180 lbs
v2 = ------------------ (1+0.8) (100mph)
180 lbs + 0.1 lbs

v2 = (0.9994) (1.08) (100mph)= 179.90 mph

For the parameters given, the golf ball will leave the club head at 179.90 miles per hour.

No Dark, I`m not joking about that.

Aids, I`ve been hit with a golf ball as well. However, I was protecting my then-girlfriends head. I have no idea how I was able to get my hand up in time to stop the ball from hitting her head, but I did. Luckily the golfer was a good 180+ yards out and the ball was on it`s descent.

It wasn`t too crazy of a layout though. There was a road that cut in between the 18th fairway about 4/5th of the way from the tee to the green, used for the service personnel. So I guess it was my fault that I cut into their play. However, because it was a par 5 and because there was an incline, they couldn`t see either one of us. =\

Someone needs to invent negative stars. That was a -100/5. I play golf & can`t imagine that...We could have easily witnessed someone’s death. Makes me want to track them down & slap them into unconsciousness.
