I dont know with all the robotics advances since 86 we were pretty far ahead in learning computers in the 70`s it just seems the closer the hardware gets to complamenting our own ... yet we havent heard much from the thinking program front since the 70`s

I dont get it. You build a robot that would cost at least 400 000 dollars to buy and couple of millions is research and development, but why not just get a real person to greet people at parties? The cost of that is somewhere around 40 000 dollars each year. Sure I get the whole "we do it cause its fun" and all, but greeting people at parties? Why not make it build houses and stuff instead?
