I find it interesting how we Americans are pursuing robotics mainly for military purposes while Japan seems to be developing it for the civilian market.

Regardless the robolinist was quite impressive. It would be pretty awesome to one day have the option of turning on a band of robots playing real instruments instead of listening to the stereo. Also I`d be down with having an R2D2 type robot in my car to keep me entertained during long drives and help me navigate.

fuck those things... SHOW BE THE DESTRUCTO-ROBOTS!

Japan is a very peaceful country, peaceful in the sense of obeying its laws and the individual. Maybe it`s all based on that honor system they`re famous for, or it`s a result of civilization evolution (they`re further ahead than any other country).
I read that they also have a very strict gun policy ensued just because and asian teenager was shot trick-or-treating (he entered a house and the owner thought he was a robber or something). In America this incident didn`t cause much controversy due to its constitution, whereas in Japan they reformed the whole law.

thats because Japan is not allowed to have a standing military, only a "Self-Defense Force", it relies on almost all of its defense on the various US military bases that are there, one which I used to live on (the Northern most base, Misawa AFB). But other than that, people seem to forget the commercial and medical advances made by technology intended for military use.

Led Zeplin;
Partly true, but this situation is rapidly changing thanks to Japans progressive new PM. 2005 and 2006 saw important significant changes to the status of the JSDF, it now has a more agressive, proactive mandate.
Those times of a purely defensive force are almost at an end...
