It`s not really futuristic mister MS researcher.. if you`d do your research properly you would see that 3d shapes have been recorded into computer for at least one decade now trough infra-red signals, entire faces are transplanted into virtual mediums within seconds.

And about the practical applications: as i`ve observed the camera only records each highest point, you would need at least 2 more positioned sideways to record the structure of a model building or car..etc... That would be expensive, hard to use, and in no way better than the infra-red/laser technology...

Not in real time there buddy. This is a whole new way to digitize things. It`s not using small sensors to detect key points to mimic movement or having infared sensors move up and down an object to produce a high detail model. This is taking each individual pixel of the image and assigning a depth value to it to create a real time 3d model.

Once these cameras get a few years of development and computers gain more processing power, models and animation are going to look incredible. Not only that but it will drastically reduce the cost of making games and CGI films since motion capture rooms that cost in the millions will no longer be necessary.

All you would need is this camera and some software to capture animations of real 3d human models.

Not to mention the game applications or user interfaces. Combine this with the table top multi point touch screen interface from the ted talks and that right there is the future of PC interfaces.

^^ This is true, that man had no social skills.. the chick used to be cool on this random gaming show i used to watch on g4 tv?

And what i was wondering about the camera was, is it processing a real time 3d image including physics, with speed, trajectory and momentum from the construction paper ramps and obstacles?
