Just a theory but maybe monkeys have a better eyesight and not really smarter. I figure if humans have 20 fps eyesight(and i know there is a lot of variables to that) we would only get 4 frames in our brain to see 5 numbers. What if monkeys have better fps from things like tree climbing and having to remember where each branch is as they climb. Very interesting study!

Also I was thinking along the lines how humans have a natural selection on the way we view things. I can surf 1000 web pages and not see a banner ad but subconciously i have. We also center attention around movement and light. Do monkeys see things the same way we do?

i remember watching this on the morning news. I did a project on chimps, i remember reading that a chimp could hide an item miles from his jungle home and find it days later, which a human would spend alot more time doing.

seems like this chimp is alot smarter than most spiked users.

I saw this in the morning, and my thoughts on it were simply this. Animal instinct and the fact the Monkey is focusing on nothing other then the task at hand. Humans have the ability to second guess ones self and doubt ones self, unlike the monkey. Generally when you "go with your gut instinct" you succeed. However in games of Memory the biggest flaw we face is self doubt, which is just enough time for our memories to scatter.

Basically what I`m saying is they`re minds are smaller and thus better at focusing on one small task at a time. WHere as the people in the test could have the essay they didn`t finish in the back of their mind or other things festering in their subconcious.

Our greatest strength, going against our natural instinct is also our greatest weakness. An other example is a dog`s amazing ability to find it`s way home, we travel about 3 and a half hours North to hunt each year (up towards Ottawa, where as we are closer to Toronto) and twice the camp Hunting dog has gotten lost in the woods and walked all the way home in just a couple days. Humans couldn`t pull this off due to all our psychological weaknesses that we consider strengths.

^ yeah exactly what I was thinking, but I thought of it like this, chimps don`t have as much going on in the head as a human, from childhood we`re always cramming more and more into our heads, complicating everything with more data clouding our minds
