Had the pleasure of seeing them preform in Toronto about two years ago at the Air Canada Center.
When they played Hurt it was fucking amazing, thousands upon thousands of lighters and every single person in the audience singing! Was very emotionally powerful, also the audience didn`t fucking clap like they do for the first half of this. I HATE when an audience claps to live music, it`s fucking irritating.

^ Was lucky enough to see them a few months back in Melbourne - They rocked the shit out of it.

This is a definite 5/5 - great fucking song.

*bracing myself for the "the original johnny cash version is way better" comments*

^ Haha I can see it coming man.. ignorant children who actually still think Johnny Cash (Who was awesome) wrote the song.

News flash before you idiots start saying it.. Nine Inch Nails released this song on the Downward Spiral CD in 1994, Johnny Cash covered it in 2002!

Johnny Cash`s version has a 100x more emotion in it, that`s why is his version owned Trent`s.

Johnny Cash took this song to where it needed to go and actually completely and totally blew away Trents song more than anyone imagined.

Even Trent Reznor said that JC did this song better, it became Johnny`s song and video.

This version nice, but nowhere near what JC did.

He didn`t say it was better, he said it brought tears to his eyes. He admired it greatly, but the original is still bounds better. The best part about Cash`s version is the fact that Trent`s talent had finally crossed over to another genre and reached many people who would never have known how amazing a writer he is. The video for Johnny Cash`s Hurt is also amazing. It was amazing to see him so near to his death, singing about his life. Like it was a tribute to himself, but selfless in a way.

Comment made by trent reznor from the CMT 2003 awards:

"We were in the studio, getting ready to work -- and I popped it in," Reznor says. "By the end I was really on the verge of tears. I`m working with Zach de la Rocha, and I told him to take a look. At the end of it, there was just dead silence. There was, like, this moist clearing of our throats and then, `Uh, OK, let`s get some coffee."

debate, debate, debate

too much banter

johnny cash put a different spin on an already great song. the emotion and conviction exuded by both artists, as it relates to this song, are awesome in their own unique way.

JC`s version is better, period. It may be Trents song, but his version never brought anyone to tears. It is not an accimplishment of Trents writing, it is an accomplishment of JC to listen to completely different music, adapt it to HIS way, and make a song, which in this case was better than the original.

Otherwise, Hurt was a song that nobody really asked for much on the radio or TV. Theres no Trent video for it except for this live one.

Sorry, JC brought this song to light, end of debate.
