The CEO`s and high ranking people in these companies love to instill in their employees a sense of working for, `The Company Good.` And by doing this they ask them to work overtime without extra pay, go long periods without raises, and only take meager benefits`. And for the most part the Employees usually oblidge, thinking if they did not the Company may suffer. However, the CEO`s and the board of Directors who instill this Bullshit are the first to have massive salaries, as well as, extravagent `Expense Accounts`, and may only have a short time in with the Company, but when they leave due to incompetence or retirement, their payouts are, "HUGE.". And the lonely employee who has given his, `Heart and Soul`, to the Company for many years, will be lucky to get a pitence when they leave. It`s Bullshit, but probably will not change any time soon...

they are right they should be getting PAY i mean if actors get paid thousands of dollars just for acting... while acting out a scene that has been handed out to them to read...then i believe the Writer`s should be getting paid more than the actors
or thats just me

Give the writers what they deserve, without them there would be no shows. Although I spose it`s like most industries really the person who does all the work gets shit all for his trouble and some lazy company head rakes in all the money. Hopefully it won`t be much longer till it actually hits the media companies that they have nothing left to broadcast but sports and repeats.

what about all the hundreds of other people that work on each show? do the writers think they should get a slice? i mean, there are people working on the set, props, the actual audio and video itself. seems like thats just as important and deserving of pay for usage.

i hate it when people take the "be fair" stance when really all their thinking is "be fair to me"

let the downvotes commence.

You mean the daily show has writers? Gosh, I didn`t think it took a whole team of people in order to make up news or make Jon Stewart stumble through lame jokes.

well i agree with you nineclicks, but you can`t blame the writer`s union for not supporting camera-men, stage hands, etc... i think if they feel like they need that money, then they should be doing the same. (they probably will, but scripts have a tendency to stockpile, so for now at least some of them are still working)

No body gets it, If the writers want the full profit from their work they have to start their own production companies and adopt the full risk of same. It doesn`t sound all that hard; every rap-star and a fair share of actors have their own production companies. They want the best of both world, the safety of a salaried job and the income of an investor without the risk! Its not the producers who are using the writers, its the writers who are tying to use the producers to shelter themselves risk typically associated with. The problem is not insofar as the production companies are behaving in a capitalist fashion, it is in what respect that they behave in an anti-capitalist manner. Price-fixing and other collutions are well documented and if these were addressed, the market would do the rest.
