At 8:42 "The Shaolin monk could use violence only to purge evil. To take up arms otherwise was forbidden." A good sentiment. But most wars are started on the precept of purging evil. Even the instigators - Hitler, Bush, etc. -- always claim that their acts of aggression are merely defense or preemptive measures.

The difference is that, with few exceptions, the Shaolin seem to have actually lived according to their principles.

Bush, Hitler et al disingenuously used the virtuous principles they espoused in order to mask their actual, craven predatory acts.

I was only following a comparison made by the previous post, a popular comparison, too, I might add. As fitting as it is,I can`t take credit for it. Indeed, the only one who truly can is Bush himself. I guess that`s the price you pay when you start an unprovoked war that results in countless dead innocents.

As fun as it is to explore the Godwin`s-Law implications of this comparison, the real point behind the post had to do with living according to one`s principles.

Comparisons to Hitler aside, for a supposedly devout, "born-again" Christian to do as Bush has done is the epitome of hypocrisy. Sadly, it is a hypocrisy that is not at all rare among Bush`s fellow "Christians."

"Who would Jesus bomb?" has become a trite question, but one that deserves consideration.

The Shaolin who are the subject of this vid exemplify the just use of *force* to defend against *violence*. There`s a difference between the two. Something the world`s leaders, past and present, forget too easily.

islandflyer: "preemptive" is offense, as in "Hey that guy has a knife! I`ll go get my gun and blow him away before he has time to use it!".

Defensive is "I can beat the living shit out of him if he pulls that knife so why bother with him until then?"
