Sorry, I neither loved nor hated this movie.

They more than butchered the plot...but thankfully made up for it with some great casting and acting. Call it a wash...the SciFi Channel mini-series a few years ago did far better justice to the story but, of course, didn`t quite have the acting talent of Lynch`s version.

Frank Herberts DUNE was MUCH better in my opinion. Sadly it was a straight to t.v version. Check it out if you can!

Books and movie were great there is only so much you can fit into a movie without making it too long, and lynch did a god job getting what he could in. Books were great and movie was good. 5/5 good post.

Even in the movie sting is a pretentious prat

I would agree that the movie didn`t do the book justice but hey there is only so much you can do in 1980 lol.

I have seen both the mini series and the movie and i would have to say the mini series is closer to the book, but a shitty budget means they skimped out on some effects such as the desert being a set covered in sand with a noticeable backdrop... and the casting kinda sucks balls too.
The movie has a most awesome cast and wicked sick sound track but it diverts a little from the book

both are cool

The mini series has the follow up Children of dune.. Now that is a good watch that one is really really good alot better than

Of course this movie spawned 2x Computer (and console) games.

`Dune` was on old school RPG with limited screen (bitmap) adventuring.

The big influence was with `Dune II, Battle for Arakis`. This game was developed by Westwood studios and was the precursor to the Command and Conquer series. This game was arguably the birth of RTS.
