oh thank god! we had a HUGE magnesium fire at work the other day and i was THIS CLOSE to throwing big blocks of dry ice we have laying around the office onto it! PHEW!

the best thing to do with magnesium i think, is make sum flash powder. magnesium + aluminium powder, and a small amount of your favourite oxidizer. you can make small bombs with this stuff.

We did this on the university ... ours did a huge mess and we had to clean it up :P

Magnesium belongs to the few things that react with dry ice (CO2). I guess you are thinking of dry ice bombs. Well it doesnt react to anything in them. It just sublimes and pressure builds up.

An easy way to put out small metal fires is to place a polyethene bag filled with dry sand on top of the fire. The heat of the fire will melt the bag and the sand will flow out onto the fire. Those are my own words. Do not google them, you will find nothing.

P.S. could putting water onto a magnesium fire result in the fuel of the future?
