John Petrucci has him beat, for the simple reason he can play in many genres and still has the same technical ability.

Hmm i prefer Suicimez as guitarists go, but each to their own :). The one which is titled Forever is a long time is Vengeance no?

He`s OK but it kinda all sounds the same. A million notes up and down the fretboard but it evokes no emotional response, unlike some of the greats from the 60`s like Beck, Hendrix, Clapton and Page.

Turkman if you check some of his older stuff there is a great deal of emotion to be found, check out `Black Star`. Although i agree nowdays he has lost his way and mindlessly wanks but hey what can you do. Most shredders create very emotional music as usualy if they have bothered to practice enough to get good chops they have bothered to learn a great deal of music theory so they can access further emotions than just playing the same pentatonic scale over and over again like Page and Hendrix (although i am a massive Hendrix fan).

Best? No. The best guitarist ever(disregarding genre or type of guitar) would have to be Andrés Segovia, he pioneered the guitar unlike anyone before or after. It doesn`t matter what you think, without this man the guitar wouldn`t be what it is today.

PaaTy Andres Segovia only had an effect on classical guitar. Rock, pop and metal would be identical, only classical would be different. There is not really a `best` guitarist, just a persons favourite guitarist. Malmsteen pretty much created neo classical, so he has had about as much effect on guitars as Andres has. Although im not that big on Malmsteen just making a point..your comment was a little silly.

malmstein is a decent guitarist, hes kinda stuck in the 80s like how steve vai and joe satriani are.
if you want real speed look up SHAWN LAYNE he was the fastest shredder ever to live, the best of all the godlyest guitarists from the 80s he was faster than anyone doing stretches and string skipping faster than everyone.

if you want a truely talented guitarist musician you want BUCKETHEAD hes an amazing guitarist, better and faster than malmsteen and hes much more versatile(i e he can go from chicken pickin redneck to hip hop to death metal to instumental classical beautiful music)
