Shocking...

I read somewhere that to have a optimal education, the class must have less than 15 students.

I live in Canada, my educaton is free. Well, more or less, I got to work my ass to pay my books...

If only I could buy a fucking laptop, and the teachers could stop to be so fucking greedy and force us to buy their own book, instead of publish their work on the net ><`

But the point of all that is an education should be a right not a privilege...

FREE EDUCATION FOR EVERYONE!

"Free like Free Speech, (A N D) like Free Beer"
It`s fucking knowledge men, how can you put a property on that!?

I`m canadian as well and I have to pay for Uni. Trust me, I have a laptop I never bring it to class. I spent one day in class playing solitaire. A lot of people sacrifice education for convience. For about $800 a class I can `not` pay attention, at home.

Ohh ^education is free but the teachers and facilities are not. You don`t have to be a student to buy the same books so feel free to turn those pages.

p.s. I failed that sessions part of the exam.

wow, was that "20,000 in debt after graduation?"

where i live we only pay registration fees (thats about 500 dollars a year) with tuition fees paid by the government. This scheme lasts the duration of your college course however if you have to repeat a year (which i`m doing :( ) you have to pay both sets of fees which is a total of around $2000 for the year.

i guess im one of the lucky ones.

Eventually, and hopefully, the system will heal itself. There are a lot of useless jobs out there in which you practically have to do something for about 2h each day, but that thing is expanded through 8h a day. I don`t know who would want a job like that.
I`m trained in computer science, I know how to program and work out algorithms, and am an internet geek and can find you anything anytime with the condition that it is possible albeit going to med-school. I found out that no matter what education you get or how hard you work to be a master at it, it equals 0 when you want to apply it practically.
For instance, once my entire hard drive was erased by this allegedly computer "repair"-guy (note that erasing a hard drive without signed consent from the owner is against the law). I obviously was outraged, I turned to a specialist, an university professor in computer science, and asked for data recovery instructions. He told me that data-recovery is very rare and costs thousands of $ and people that do such things are usually employed by banks bla bla bla. After the chat I got to a computer and googled for data-recovery programs, it took me 5 min to get one of those expensive programs and solely recover my data for free.

So most people don`t even know half of the things their jobs imply, society divides people to the most tiny degree. One employee knows that 1+1=2, another one knows that 1+2=3 and so on. It`s not that those people are lazy or something, we as humans can`t process this exponentially growing flux of information so the only solution is to divide it, and keep dividing it. Technology is evolving faster than we are and we`ll eventually get fully assimilated by it. Think about it, how many jobs require a computer? And how many employees that have jobs that require a computer know how a computer fully works?

"20,000 in debt after graduation?"

In where I live (Edmonton, alberta) ,University of alberta costs 5000 dollars for tution and almost 1000 dollars in books. A regular bachelor degree is 4 years. 6000 x 4 = 24,000 dollars.
So if your government pays for your tuition you`re one lucky fucker.

I think somebody forgot to put up:

"Last night I played Quake 3 from 12AM till 6AM.
Woke at 6AM to attend college for 5 hours.
Had no time to study but passed all my classes.
Went to work for 8 hours to pay for school.
Repeated the above.
Today, I am a Systems Analyst / Programmer.
Tax form 8863 + work benefits paid for most of my college.
My college is paid off."

^true story.

i`m an electrician. my job pays for my schooling.

stop complaining. you could be living in Iraq or Africa right now making no money and just trying to survive. no matter how "bad" you think your life is, there are other places that are far worse.

Please, stick the "it could be worse" argument up your, well you know where.

Yes it could be worse. Is that what I`m supposed to think while I`m being, lets say, waterboarded? YES, I guess they could be waterboarding me in acid...
I just hate reasoning like that. I don`t care if I`m being illogical or logical here. It could be worse...

I`m supposed to feel grateful just because other people have it worse? Boy, theese cancerous fumes from this sulphurmine isn`t so bad milord, especially considering what I could be doing. Where would we be if we thought like that? I want everyone to have it GREAT, not just accept whatever their life is.

Improvements are made by not accepting the current state, at least that is what I believe - or rather CAN be made. Doesn`t necessarily mean change will bring improvement.

Anyway, the video was hard to see. I`m not sure what this is about :P Education is fucked up? Education for everyone? Laptops are expensive?

The key to getting anyone to do anything is motivation. OF COURSE students are going to be "lazy" if they dont feel anything (not counting feeling bored ;P). Especially if they dont feel motivated.
I guess you could argue that what the hell are they doing in university? Well, theres a simple answer for that, they dont want to clean septic tanks.

"It`s not that I`m lazy, I just don`t care" .- Office space

Ever wondered WHY starvation is painful and why food tastes good (and even better when you are hungry)?
Take a food you hate, dont eat for 15 days and try that food then... I promise you it will taste like lovejuice from god himself :P
Thank you body for motivating me.

I really really wish I had just ONE teacher who had motivated me a bit more and "taught" me a bit less. Everything I know about computers I taught myself the hard way by trial and error simply because I had disgusting amounts of motivation. I do the same with english on theese uhm comment pages.

One of best tool and motivator I know of is having FUN. They should try that out in the world of "grownups". Maybe not as effective and forceful as the pain we tried in days past (caneing and stuff), but worth a shot?

Or we could just stick with the current nr.1 tool. Fear. Fear of being unemployed. A looser. A bum.
So in essence, we`re all terrorists I guess :)

Edit below:

I don`t want to edit anything away. More on grateful pg.3 I think I wrote with a bit too much feeling a bit too fast here :)

I am fortunate to serve in the Canadian Forces, who also happen to pay for my education (Simon Fraser University). I can sympathise with many of the points in this video, when I go to lecture or even tutorials people are always connected to their social networks through cells or laptops via wifi. However, I personally think much of the problem stems from students (particularly, I think, in my native Canada where I view people as having less entrepreneurial initiative as Americans) are just lazy. I go to laboratories where the entire thing is laid out online and the calculations are done in walkthrough via LonCapa, yet still people come wearing their asses on their heads not knowing what is going on. Much of the networking done today in schools just allows people to be lazier. Having access to class forums on calculations and problems just helps weaker students to rely on help from others without learning how to use their own learning skills to advance through higher education and into better occupations in the workforce
