Violin Case Saves Boy

LANCASTER, Pa. — Now there's at least one 10-year-old boy who doesn't mind taking violin lessons. Police said the boy was walking to school holding his violin case when a vehicle sped through a crosswalk and hit him.

Witnesses said the case took most of the impact, and officer Mark Worthing said the boy suffered only cuts and bruises after the accident.

Police said the car raced around traffic stopped by a crossing guard, hit the boy, and then sped away at speeds up to 70 mph.

Worthing said he's sure if it were not for the violin case, "that kid would be seriously hurt." The boy's name was not released.

Authorities say Dayton Cassel, 20, of Lititz, faces hit and run, underage drinking, speeding and related charges. It was not known if he has an attorney.

the violin case may have saved his ass... but im willing to bet that if he wasnt taking violin classes in the first place then he never would have been there at that time anyway

^so you guys are saying if he didnt play violin that he would be exempt from school or somehow have a driving license for a ten year old so that he didnt have to walk to school anymore?

I remember a long while ago alot of spikers defended people who ran away from scenes of crimes (the comments pertained to a video of a man being killed as he was struck by a guy in a truck) supposedly because "todays laws are too harsh". You know the world is upside down when people care more for the rights of the criminal than the rights of the victim. Glad the driver was caught, it takes a coward to run away after hitting an adult, but it takes scum to run away after hitting a child.

^^If you run from a major accident like that.^^ It is a very bad call. You raise the trouble you are in exponentially. Where you may get just a fine and license suspension. You are probably looking at about at least 2yrs in jail. First offense. I that`s in Canada. So don`t run.

Unless you have 100 pounds of cocaine on you Then run your fucking ass off.
