Yes, the Spartans, like most of the Greeks at that time (as well as the Persians, Etruscans, Celts and a number of other cultures) had a homosexual/pederastic tradition. Boys from about 12 or 13 were instructed in various arts, crafts and skills by men who often developed romantic, sexual relationships as part of that instruction. There was even a form of marriage that occurred among these couples, including feasts, a honeymoon, and a wedding shower where the younger partner would typically receive his first sword, shield and helmet from the older man.

Some Spartans idealised chaste relationships with their boys. Others were patently salacious. In any case, this was not "molestation" and, in fact, if a boy felt at all abused by the man he could declare a "divorce" after the honeymoon and they would have nothing further to do with each other.

^99raptor, that`s because these heroes were "fags"; some of the butchest, rock-hard, mean SOBs around who worshipped maleness so much, they thought the most natural thing in the world was for two men to love each other, screw each other, fight along side each other, and die together.

Women were OK. That was where baby Greeks came from. But "love" for most Greeks, for most of their history was something *men* shared with each other, right along with war, adventure, honour, and heroism.

Women just did the washing up...
