Looks exciting... and it seemingly takes alot of awareness to make sure you don't actually strike your opponent..

soo, is this supposed to be fighting? Because I`m pretty sure while one of these guys are pretty much break dancing, a real martial artist would have knocked them out instantly. That`s not to say it doesn`t have potential though, just needs to be utilized by a non-pussy. Put some of this stuff into a Jeet-Kune-Do regiment and you may be able to use it properly.

isnt this that style that they came up with becuase they were under slavery and they made it look like a dance because if they were caught practicing martial arts they would be persecuted.

Saw a guy doing this stuff in a fight, looked all flash and cool until the other guy just grabbed is leg and spun him into a park bench, can`t do that fancy flipping jumping stuff is you just got your back smacked quite hard into a stationary object. That being, that was the only time I`ve seen it other than Tekkan. Just from seeing that clip it seems more of a dance with kicks than a fighting style. I do notice a lot of high kicks though, judging by now close they get a simple sweep kick would take out their arms or legs, and since their feet are already in the air and arms/other leg is sweeped not much you can really do. But, I`m not expert.

I don`t know about you guys, but dropping to the floor and spinning 360 degrees on my head would always be my first choice of manoeuver when faced with an armed assailant.

Torne is right. It was created as a martial arts form in guise of a dance. they point of it is to gather lots of momentum into your kicks and snap it when you strike someone. I`ve never actually seen a video of someone fighting with this style.

I Have seen a video of one guy sparring against an imaginary person and it looked pretty effective (moves were much faster than this).

But never seen it in real combat. And I believe Dark_Reign is full of bull. "Grabbed his legs and flipped him" eh? Because thats what happens in fights.

Actually Dark_Reign isn`t too far off. I`ve sparred with a few guys that used this and it really isn`t all that practical. You can`t change direction in mid-air and momentum can be used against you very easily. Striking at odd angles with the small bones of the foot at hard targets like a human skull... not such a good idea. You also have to take into consideration that moves like these are telegraphed to the point that you might as well tell your opponent what you`re planning on doing before you execute. I could go on all day but the point is that flashy styles, while impressive visually, don`t tend to do well in practical application.

Though, it is a damned good workout and it does wonders for agility and coordination. Capoeira is also like any martial art, it`s only a component in a larger recipe of experience and skill that make up your own ability. Better martial artists tend to mix things up from different styles that work for them, and some of the more talented folks that I have met do use some of these techniques loosely.
