Dirty Martini:
I was making Martinis about 2 hours ago. I don`t have these exact ingredients, but if you want a less stiff drink go with dirty martini, same ingredients but throw in about a half an ounce of olive juice or other ratio garnish juice. Made the drink much less stiff than just gin and vermouth.

Speaking as a fan of the Martini

yes you do need an olive, because they are soaked in Brynne which will bring a little salt into the drink. v.important. if you are without olives ad a small pinch of salt will do. if you don`t like olives... don`t eat it.

Note: you should stir a Martini, not shake it, preferably in a glass (not metal) mixer. (this is because contact with metal changes the taste of vermouth slightly, shaking it will bruise it (as it fruit based, like a wine) and should be treated with a little more care. people associate `shaken` with martinis because of James Bond... but it`s a fallacy.

Lemon peel in Martinis are for cruise ship gigolos.

(side note)
i assumed that a dirty martini in the above but with a small amount of scotch swirled into the mixer.

I guess ultimately you can drink what you want, but it`s a question of semantics. you can have a martini with vodka instead of gin... but then it`s a Kangaroo, you can have it without an olive and put cocktail onions in... but then its a Gibson.
