I agree with the gent who says that, due the loss of status, Americans will no longer be able to consume as much and will need to reorder their society - for example, by riding bikes instead of SUVs.

I hope he's mistaken, though, that increased power among Asian countries will cause them to copy the bad habits of Americans - for example, by buying those SUVs Americans will no longer be able to afford.

I hope growing Asian economies will follow the example of Western Europe with livible cities, mass transit, bikes, building *in* and *up* rather than *out* in the way that is chracteristic in the US.

I'm looking forward to this. The strength of the US economy has led to a disproportionate amount of American cultural influence around the world. American "values" go hand-in-hand with American money. Again, I hope that the economies that take America's place don't fall into the trap of feeling like they have to be more like America than America itself in order to be successful.

We need to see what the US has done as an example of what *not* to do more often than something to copy, and to go in the *other* direction.

its actually a -5% in canada now... which is wild because I remember a time when stores offered 40% even 50% in some stores (I lived close to the border with NY state)...
but the US collapsing means Canada collapsing.. which means im moving to australia lol

Well done video.

If I had to point only one finger at the problem, I would point out that within our current system of economics, the only favorable outcome for a large company is growth and profit. How can companies expect to perpetually increase growth and profits sustainably?

Analogously, cancer achieves these goals, until the host dies of course...

the problem with americans is that they're getting fucked by their own country, but they're too narrow minded to figure that out...

Lets not forget the fact that China has trillions of US dollars in their reserves and if for some reason they decided to sell off these reserves you would see the collapse of the Dollar in a very short space of time. I do not think that they would do this any time soon because although their economy is growing they still need the West for certain things, but when they reach our levels of development, which according to some forecasts may not take that long, they could sell these currency reserves which would be catastrophic for the US.

It's not Bush's fault(although the idiot sure knows piss on an open wound), it's not Clinton's fault, It's the world's way of balancing itself just like freaking Dubai growing incredibly fast - although it's fall will be just as fast and stupid.
Like the anecdote with the american and 5 asians on an island... the asians are slowly becoming autonomous..

This is still just a hypothesis but the dollar has decreased considerably in the last 7 years - i know this because in my country (Romania) there is a currency exchange office every hundred yards and since 2000 the $ has started dropping slightly and then rapidly after the start of the war in afganistan (way to go Bush!! :D).

Americans, i'm sorry, but your economy is slowly dying...

^narrow minded isn't exactly the issue, but the population is systematically misinformed and miseducated. That creates a snowball effect where rational thinking people can't simply fix by speaking the truth. People inherently believe that their opinion and point of view is the right one. I believe that is due to our survival instincts. Socrates pointed it out perfectly when he went around and asked people from different stations in life about the answers and found that everyone no matter what they do for living had all the answers. Ask a plumber, he'll tell you all you need to know about macro-economics or psychology. Ask a carpenter and he'll deliver the info you need for salvation, plumbing your house and how to raise your pet gerbil.

Try telling these people that they are all wrong and see what kinda response you get.
