I choose not to play games like WoW, Lineage or Ragnarok because I know and used to have good friends who are now closet cases...one flunked out of university because of WoW...DAMN YOU online games and the social lives you've claimed!!

I hate how they always refer to games as a "virtual world". Oh and the guy that died, if its the one that I'm thinking of died of drinking to much energy drinks over a certain period of time, it had nothing to do with games.

@bukkake well they would finish halo3 in a few hrs, no marathon there. Being korean they would also not waste their abilities on a primitive console "controller"

I am a College Student currently living in Seoul, South Korea. (Seoul is the the capital city, for those who don't know)

This 'internet addiction' has become quite a problem here -

i have friends who basically stay up all night playing games such as WoW, but they seem to be more interested in Linege, Sudden Attack (a Korean version of Counter-strike) and ofcourse, yours truly, Starcraft.

The problem is, the way i see it -

it really does destroy our social skills.

Many South Koreans seem very reluctant to speak with new faces, and find themselves very uncomfortable in new enviornments.

And, maybe some of you have read -

A gamer killed and robbed another person for 5,000 dollars in order to buy a special 'item' from another player on Linege had stumbled across.

It's no doubt that South Koreans are one of the most intelligent and diligent people -

some of you would be surprised to know that just fifty years ago (during the 1950s, 1960s) South Korea was one of the poorest nations in the world. We had a smaller annual GDP compared to North Korea, Somalia, and most other developing nations.

But in just half a century, we've managed to become the 10th largest economy in the world.

The future for our nation was really bright..

and I just pray to god that the technology that had brought us so much success (technology, mainly concerning computers and such) are not the same ones that impede us from developing further...

they need to return to reality? I'm pretty sure sitting at your computer playing games is reality. Even online environment are real. you sit at your pc, hit keys and move your mouse causing reactions on screen. I dont type comments on spiked and then say, oops, time to get back to reality.

I say all this because its one of the most frustrating ideals that people hold about the internet. People see it as an imaginary world, but its not. Its a commumity with real people sitting at real pc's. Everyone needs to keep that in mind because when you think all this is not reality, then you treat other people online with disrespect, or say things you'd never say face to face with someone, etc. etc. etc.

I get the point the reporter is trying to say about the fantasy world, but dont say they need to return to reality. they never left reality, you cant....
