Dept of Homeland Security released this video today, showing the damage to an industrial turbine if online hackers gained access into the electric grid.

And BTW, while everyone is calling this a turbine, it is not.

This is a big V-16 diesel engine coupled to a large generator. It's a genset, and the only "turbines" are in the turbo-chargers, if it has them.

So for a test, all it really proves is that IP based switching/control is a dangerous proposition if the security of it relies on obscurity rather than proper strong cryptography.

Exploder knows what he's talking about thats nothing more then a backup generator. True turbines are MUCH larger and would most likely take everything around them out if out of balance or lube.

Propoganda to generate fear and patriatism has been used for almost 5000 years and now in modern media.

What is Homer sitting at home, pressing the 'y' key while this thing is running. I doubt this shit is hooked up to the public grid. And even it it is this would have trouble powering my neighbourhood alone. The one you gotta worry about is places like Hover Damn, and large coal facilities. And those are definetly run through a 24Hour control room, so if HomeLand security really put this video out, they're on crack.

LOL this was on the news days ago, and they did this just to see how easy it was to hack.. and guess what, its fucking simple, and u know whats going on now? they are updating to make sure NOONE can hack into it, and by the guess of things, since its in america, they are gonna put alot of money into this because terrorists can use it against them...
