The mind......fucking with ppls heads since the dawn of time.....hey this reminds me of something i read in highschool.....A guy accidentally shot himself in the head with a high powered nail gun....he survived only to loose his ability to do arithmatic(add,subtract,multiply etc)....maybe if i shot myself with a nail gun in the right spot might make me quit smoking.

Its a specific type of Unilateral Neglect, where the patient 'Joe' can identify the object he is seeing in the right visual field of the fixation point because of the language center in his left frontal and temporal lobe, specifically Broca's area and Wernicke's area, a center which is specific to only the left hemisphere, though >5% of people display it in their right hemisphere. Therefore when Joe sees an item in his left visual field, the area to the left of the dot or the fixation point, his right hemisphere processes the item and he is aware that it is there but he is unable to verbalize it because the connection to his left hemisphere is severed (the corpus callosum) and therefore the language center cannot create the word to send back to the right hemisphere for Joe to name the object ie. 'saw'. This is really fascinating, but the corpuscallotomy (severing the corpus callosum) is a relatively new procedure, before they used to remove the patients left hippocampal area, the area which controls your memory, and sure it would stop your seizures or at least minimize them, but it also left you with a severely impaired memory or NO MEMORY AT ALL!! lol

rmemeber my first year prof in psych rambling on and on about unconcious processes and people who had their corpus callosum cut...its actually quite interesting b/c they can lead a absolutely normal life and unless these specific situations come up, its impossible to tell that they even had it cut
