For my American colleagues, CHAV stands for Council Housed and Violent. There is a new breed of people in Britain who are very carefree, violent, broke and housed by their local councils. In most cases all they do is drink heavily and cause fear and problems for the rest of the society around them. Apologies if I have offended any "decent" CHAVS in Britain.

To the last two posters who think that violence is the solution to violence, Get A Clue!. Justice and community watch programs have worked pretty well in many areas of the U.S. Its the morons who teach their kids violence at an early age that create violent offenders. I am amazed at your ignorance.

In my community (southwest US) we teach our kids to solve differences with their minds using negotiations, and of course we all carry guns just in case the negotiations fail:)

We need to employ the Ludovico technique. I cant walk through town at night without getting comments such as "gimp", "gayboy" or "doherty" - (as i was wearing a shirt and therefore am pete doherty... yeesh). i have avoided beatings though - ive been confronted many a time but they always seem to back off if you light up a ciggie and ignore them. weird that.

I always thought that 'chav' originated from chatham. and the acronym was thought up afterwards. ah well.

they really are the bane of society. i'd prefer a society of emos anyday. til then, expect sales of burberry, trackies, pregnancy tests, bling and vertical baseball caps to rise.

Guns wouldn't resolve the issue - possibly just escalate it. What the UK needs is less people whinging about the human rights of prisoners. If you're capable of ignoring the human rights of your victim (the right not to be a victim), then you should have your own human rights revoked.

Act like an animal - you get treated like one. Simple.

But sadly criminals are granted MORE human rights that the victims in a lot of occasions. Makes me fucking sick!

The main problem is the kids parents, they set no boundaries, don`t teach them respect, don`t discipline all because they don`t want to upset their children, cant be bothered or have also been brought up by scum parents themselves, so the cycle continues.

Police need powers to actually do more than caution these mindless, disrespectful little shits.

If people tackle the kids then they get arrested for assault or get assaulted by the little shits friends.

Take away the parents social money, tell them to get jobs and support they kids.
Kids need sending to boot camp.

Well, the word isn`t "chav" its "charv" originated from "charver" in Newcastle Upon Tyne to describe the scallywags that walk around in their tracksuits and walking gear such as Berghaus coats, and Rockport boots.

I find that going out and beating the shit out of them helps. One night on town, on my own going home, I got into 4 fights just for walking by them.

I then took up boxing, and now my worries have vanished. I have beaten many to the ground, then grounding and pounding their disgusting shitfaces in.

Nobody should be scared of them, they`re all soft as shit. If they`re on a bus playing their disgusting music, take their phone, and throw it out the window.

Revolt against them, take our country back!
