libraries are sort of a milestone in civilizations, just like in the civ games. they can be repositories of all knowledge, literature, and works of art that a civilization has compiled. they are often critical in our understanding of societies long gone. it's a shame that according to a survey/new stats, attendance at public libraries in the US is at an all time low. it's quite interesting though that medical and science journals have been more and more put into electronic form, which makes searching and retrieval of our ever increasing numbers of published research papers more efficient as they continue to skyrocket.

but then again most public city libraries don't look as great as the ones in this gallery
