An Oregon State Police patrol car hit a stroller injuring the less than one-year-old baby inside.

seems like the baby died, was just an accident, i dont think carelessness was involved on any part. the cop should aid the woman in creating a new baby now though, for sure.

I Bet if it were the other way around and the lady hit a police while he was walking across the road she probably would have went to jail for assaulting a cop.

Yes I bet you that you are right that if a civilian was driving down the road and struck a cop walking across they would be charged. Yes I do believe that after the investigation and some paid vacation the OSP will be back to work with nothing against him.

Obviously he should feel extremely terrible which I imagine, he does cause no one wants to hurt a baby, but the woman should not have been in the street. He was answering a call which means that at the least his lights were on, if not both lights and sirens which I would bet that they were. I do feel horrible about this, for all involved but please lets not get dumb around here and start the F the pigs stuff.

Has nothing to do with a big bad wolf. It has to do with the fact that pushing a stroller across the middle of (what appears to be) a highway or busy multilane street in the dark is a damn stupid thing to do.

CookieMonster - if you had a baby ,you would know that is the perfect time to take your child out for a stroll. The morning isn't good because the child would be sucking in more soot from all the cars of people going to work. The midday in the summer is blisteringly hot and totally inappropriate to take an infant out in. By 8pm most people have gotten home from work. The roads are calmer. The sun is still up. The heat has died down. AND some cop in a rush to go check on a trailer park, hits a stroller.

Splat - they weren't blocking off a part of the freeway. They were blocking off an offramp. That offramp would dump off onto an avenue or a highway. They would block off the offramp if it dumped off into a major accident. You can't assume the person was walking a stroller across the freeway, they would have mentioned that in the story. Most cops don't always flash their lights and sirens for every call. If they did, noone would get any sleep. We can't assert that sirens were blairing. the Cops I see speeding in my neck of the woods don't flash their lights and sirens unless they are chasing a black man driving on the freeway.;

To the guy after me, what moves faster - a crown vic or a woman pushing a stroller. How is the woman supposed to see a patrol car that is rounding a bend off the freeway at high speed. What if she's in the crosswalk before she can see him? Is there really any excuse worthy of not stopping or yielding to a crosswalk? most offramps on the west coast that look like that one have a stop sign and a crosswalk attached. If no stop sign there is always a yield sign.

It seems that miss south carolina isn't alone in her deductive reasoning skills. 7 years of a Bush presidency and the nation is dumber for it.
