I saw a piece on BBCs Newsnight tonight about the Shaolin Temple.

Apparently, it is now run by a Chinese guy with an MBA (Masters degree in Business Administration) who has bought the copyright to the name Shaolin. He's also allowed and personally endorsed a reality game show set in the temple and the original temple has been turned into a "Shaolin" theme park.

Its not about spirituality now, just money.

:(

No, you are wrong. They can't actually buy the temple, it's owned by the Shaolin Monks, the Monks would never allow that.

i'm still not sure what ah me to fu means even though i had to chant it at a funeral. i'm going to go on wiki now.

couldn't find out what it means. but anyways, as a religion, as far as i know (and i don't know much) i think buddhism is pretty nice. i have never heard any buddhists make disparaging remarks about other religions. in taiwan there are christian churches/mosques etc. and i have never seen in the news hate crimes based on religion. there are also so many different sects and branches of buddhism, with lots of interpretations about rituals and principles. i think all this is because buddhists greatly see their religion as a philosophy for living their lives, not like a law written in stone. i also have never heard of people killing others in the name of religion, like crusades, holding signs and beating gay people and yelling god hates fags or anything like that. it seems some of the main principles are about obtaining peace and harmony with the world and other ppl, not about punishment or converting others. meh, but again i am pretty ignorant about buddhism

of course though, there are plenty of fakes out there selling trinkets that are supposedly blessed, ppl asking for donations while pretending to be monks, stuff like that. there are ppl like that all over the world, i.e. televangelists.

^^ i also agree that buddahism is great as a religion, because they are pretty open minded, and it is more of a way of living that a set of rules people should obey.

but the spreading of shaolin kung fu using ways describe in the video is not really healthy to shaolin kung fu. this is why chinese kung fu are considered trash to other so called martial artists. people go into those doujo just to have a good time, something to pass their times. and the doujo simplifies everything so that the kung fu won't be too hard, and satisfies the customers.
