Dune Buggy Crashes Into Spectators

James H. Brooks, 68, of Riverdale, Ga., was driving a red dune buggy in circles when it brushed the rear of a yellow mini-car and ran into the crowd. Police at the time said it was a "freak accident."

According to the stunt guys, when you get hit by a car at slow speed like this, the best bet is to make sure you are not touching the floor which will minimise damage.

Anything below 20/mph and you have a much better chance of survival when you are already off the ground.

he was trying to steer, it didnt occur to the driver that the mini car had impacted the left front wheel and straightened and perhaps damaged the steering mechanism. yes, he should have braked. but he didnt panic and drive headlong in to a crowd, he just didnt make the right decision. thats one of the reasons fenders are required to cover the entire width of the wheel in states with sensible vehicle laws.
