about the stopping a car in reverse myth. if you lock the brakes, then get reverse while the wheels are still locked, then floor it and ease off the brakes, then you can get some reverse wheelspin while the car is moving forward. its pretty hard to co-ordinate, but works.

because the wheels are locked, effectively the engine is idling and the drivetrain is stationary, so you can get the gear as long as the wheels dont spin forwards. then you need to hit reverse with enough power to make the wheels spin backwards, against the traction of the road.

Yeah, but I think the point of the myth was: If your brakes aren't working, can you still shift gears into reverse to stop the car?

Other than that, you're correct though.. that should work. Although I don't think the car would appreciate it too much.

shifting the car in to park works at lower speeds. park isnt a gear, its a pin that extends inside the tranny to stop the gears from spinning. at low speeds (30mph max) it will stop the car, in most cases. above that, the pin just shears off and the car behaves as if it were in neutral. had they tested it further, i think they would have found that park no longer funtioned on the car.
As for the manual, there is no synchonizer on the reverse gear, so the tranny has to be almost completely stopped to be able to get in to reverse. the same is true of the low gear on heavy trucks, and first gear on many older vehicles, such as the Willies jeeps.

see this is why i hate mytybuster they try one theory and if it fails they go its BUSTED, they only try it once, as far as the tennis ball one is concern it works i did it on my 91 honda accord and it works tryed it on 10 cars and the trick mostly works on car older that 94, i cant stand mythbuster some times.

The fans questions really suck, the answers to the questions are so obvious.
Off course your eyes don't pop out, i can sneeze with my eyes open and it has no effect on your eyes at all.
Off course automatic transmissions are secured for things like putting it in reverse.
Off course manual transmissions can't be put in reverse unless you have superhuman powers.
Using the handbrake while at top speed, would be much more interesting.
