A. Its all fake, made for TV, like 90% of the magicians on TV now.

or

B. Darren Brown is a Savant, and has amazing memory skills, among other things (if you have watched his show). Which if he really is a Savant, he should be doing better stuff with his time than counting buttons lol

^^Dumbass, almost all letters in a book have the same size so he reads all the rows and words but at the same time he studies how the page is divided in sections and comes up with an number. If he was counting each letter he couldn't have hesitated.

Almost everything in todays society has been design carefully after studying how humans react. All mall for example are built so if you enter you will walk the way that you automatically think is the shortest route and then after a few yards you will do the same thing. You can make a person walk anyway you want them to.

Derran Brown simply knows how the designers work and then use that to his advantage.

The little button trick was MUCH simpler. Its about dividing the buttons in groups of 5-8 and then counting the groups until you get a few left over.
