Archimedes' Secret - BBC Horizon - 3/3

Archimedes of Syracuse was an ancient Greek mathematician, physicist and engineer. Although little is known of his life, he is regarded as one of the leading scientists in classical antiquity. This is the story of a book that could have changed the history of the World. To the untrained eye, it is nothing more than a small and unassuming Byzantine prayer book, yet it sold at Christies for over $2m. For faintly visible beneath the prayers on its pages are other, unique, writings - words that have been lost for nearly two thousand years.

It just made me cry how such a significant idea fundamental to calculus was lost and went unused. Such a terrible waste of human effort to rediscover (the summing of an infinite number of infinitely small numbers that is).

they said that eh used a technique for summing up infinite numbers, but they never showed what HIS technique was. i wanna know if it was different from what we use nowadays. derivative/integral for curves. double integral from traces for volumes. how did he do it?
