Finally we get to see the results of the $100 laptop.
Surely there will be more prototypes.
But this is a great idea as I believe not just us but also people in the third world countries should be able to benefit from the information the world wide web provides. There's so many stuff you can learn from and it's so easy to acces it. The only thing that was in the way was accesibility through hardware.. and with this idea they've made that almost redundant.

Interesting article. I've been keeping an eye on this laptop for quite a while. I find it an interesting gadget. I know it is fairly limited in many ways, but at the same time it has some useful features that are fairly full-featured. Like the wifi, camera, sound etc.. And I like that it does not run on something as wasteful as windows.

^^ I did the same thing in the computer lab at my school when I was in middle school.

Basically, the kids use the laptops for the same thing we do now.

its actually like the guy said $140 and orders of 1 million min will alienate a lot of smaller countries who could potentially be the ones the most benefit from this since they will have a lot easier control and able to set up the infrastructure much more easily. min order is $140 million plus shipping and handling.

The funiest thing about this laptop project that no one likes to discuss is the the negative environmental impact its having u think that plastic used or the components are any less toxic think again if anything they are more toxic to drive down cost.

personally i think thats a great idea. giving children knowledge and information so they can try and forge a better life for themselves. not the answer to problems but will go a good way to improving the lives of the children who get those laptops

He said it cost $140 to make. So are they losing $40 per laptop or is it selling for more than $100?

the $100 laptop is more of the name of the project with the expected goal of making them cost $100 or less, they are currently running about $140

too bad the few that have received them already are using them to look at porn (though I guess I would too if I was stuck in bumfuck middle of nowhere Africa or Iowa)
