Why doesn't the Hell house talk about the other things that cause sin? Children back talking their parents, Jews mixing with non Jews? Stuffing your fat face with Macdonald's and other pieces of shit? Or Stealing money from the poor in order to keep the priests in luxury. and gold while people A major problem with religion is that it picks and choses from a huge list, every thing is a sin. Well every thing except blind faith and unquestioning obedience to god and the word that is written in every case by man.

Morality comes from a public agreement that we have as society not from some divine source. We as society dictate what is right and wrong, thus you can have morality without religion. Religion isn't even the fundamental basis of most morality it was just the easiest way of getting consensus. If you say god told me rather then every one but Joe agrees that Homosexuality is wrong then its harder to argue with. Cause then i can say well maybe Joe is right but i don't like other guys and god says its wrong so i can't argue. Whereas without it i can say well does it hurt me? Does it hurt any one else? Uh NO and NO, So why is it wrong again? Cause you guys say it is well i agree with Joe.

^ Good arguments.
I am personally tired of religious people trying to claim that without religion the people of the world would be unable to obey rules, or get along.
Religions MIGHT have had SOME positive contributions for man (although this is suspect as well) but in the modern world it serves only as a separator of people.

Religion (a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects) isn't really the problem when you get down to it. Having ANY kind of cosmovision or set of beliefs will never damage a society. What fucks up EVERYTHING is people imposing their beliefs on others.
INCLUDING people who try to impose atheism (im not saying people who argue in favor of atheism(dawkins) I mean people who impose it as Truth (the annoying videos with questions catholics HAVE to answer)). Both sides shut up unless you contribute intelectually, that way assholes will be assholes and nice people will be nice people, no asshole will tell a nice person to act like him and no nice person will tell the asshole to act like him. God is dead: we are all absolutely free.
edit: spot on chinup, although there IS a dictionary word definition for "religion" (my definition is a quote from dictionary) and it does mean specific things but I get what youre saying

"Religion ... isn't really the problem"

Not sure I agree. Maybe not THE problem, but A problem.
When you talk about "any kind of cosmovision or set of beliefs" then we have left the realm of religion for a broader spirituality. Rarely (if ever) will you have even the most ardent atheist railing against the evils of spirituality. It is only when you make a spirituality into a religion, with rules and demands to follow, that there tend to be complaints.

a group of people pushing a belief system is not religion its a cult .. religion is a personal code you keep too ..

Just like the clergy misrepresent faith & God .. they misrepresent what religion is .

God doesn't have to be a person .. religion doesn't have to be a group thing .. faith doesn't have to equal worship ..

stop letting other people dictate to you what God is what religion is & what faith is ..

thats the problem .. people are too gullible .. stop blaming your lazy ass mentality on other people & take control of your own life ..

only a total moron cant diferentiate between faith & churches .. cant diferentiate between religion & churches .. cant diferentiate between God & what churches tell you to worship ..

Abrohamic church is not all their is to religious ideas .. really get a fucking education people .. learn about the realities of religion rather than just allowing atheism to be the next excuse to piss on peoples ability to think about things objectively ..

I'm an atheist .. don't worship any fucking one .. & I believe in God .. I bet your too stupid & brainwashed to even comprehend this ..

^ Everyone, this is Chinup (say hello Chinup).

Chinup is a rebel! He plays by his own set of rules!
You know that thing called language? Well he is too cool for it.
Religion means,

1.
1. Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe.
2. A personal or institutionalized system grounded in such belief and worship.
2. The life or condition of a person in a religious order.
3. A set of beliefs, values, and practices based on the teachings of a spiritual leader.
4. A cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion.

to almost every single person on Earth, no matter if they come from a monotheistic tradition or not.
But CHinup? No way, way to 'original' and 'deep' to let that stop him.

HE is so BADASS, he just makes up his own definition for everything.... GOD, RELIGION, FAITH. Forget what you think you know (or what language and history teaches us), CHinup has all the answers you will ever need!

i wasn't really brought up with religion, but since the majority of people around me were christian, that was the only religion i knew anything about, such as the stories (noah, the whale, david and the giant, king solomon) and principles (10 commandments). but i remember one time near the end of grammar school, i saw a cartoon about moses and the 10 commandments and when i saw the commandment about worshiping only the christian god and no one else, and how anyone of a different religion would go to hell to be tormented for eternity, i found it very...unnerving. everyone told me that the christian god is pure love and is a forgiving being, but the actual words of god straight from the bible gave me the impression that this entity was greedy, selfish, hateful, evil. i'm not sure how to explain that feeling i had at that very moment. it was sort of like a revelation, although that word in itself has a regligious conotation.

it's like, a chill. or being shocked about something that happened. like finding out on the news that the neighbor living in the apartment below who greeted you with a pleasant smile every morning on your way to work or school kidnapped and ate children, right under your feet. just a feeling of wrongness, a bit of fear, a chill of being touched by something evil that's just out of reach but all around you.

eh, being a little dramatic, but my point is that once i figured out that the book given to man by "god" itself described god as such a sinister being, i began to question the validity, purpose, and intentions of christianity, or any religion.
