trent reznor recently said that this is no longer his song. Johnny Cash's version is the ultimate, so it's now johnny's song. altho i bet trent still cashes the royalty checks in his own name! ;)

Yes Cash version is awesome. A song that can really make u think, sung by cash, someone who's voice is heard loud and clear.

ParticleMan420, I heard that a long, long. However a good year or so after I heard that.. more actually. I saw them about 2 years ago now.. They did Hurt. like 20,000 or so people in a huge stadium all singing at once.. lighters galore, it was fucking moving. One of the most uplifting and depressing moments of my life.. mostly uplifting ^_^

It's not the original. some other dude did it before, cash..but cash did it way way way better, so the guy that came up with the song in the first place, gave the song to cash.

Trent (the person singing) was the who wrote it. so this is the original (if live).
I still think the cash version has more feeling especially considering his situation when he sung it.

For fuck sake, was there a meeting I missed where people agreed to start grouping every genre of music which involves long black hair and darker lyrics as "emo"?
It's the equivalent of me saying - "every black vocal artist is a rapper". Just seems a tad ignorant...

Not to mention the fact people automatically assume nin covered a Johnny Cash song. Granted, cash did a fine job (big fan)...but give respect where respect is due.

Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails created the original "Hurt" which we see here in a live performance. Johnny Cash covered the song. Trent Reznor / NIN falls into the "Industrial" genre, not the quasi-genre "Emo." Also any claims that one version or the other is better would be opinion, not fact, so let's not argue. :)
