Those french helmets were the toughest out there. Problem was they were only tough when hit from behind.

Basically he's firing off an ancient blank at point blank. Lethal back then, lethal today, but harmless when fired into a steel plate.

That sounded like a cap gun. If that was a REAL .45 magnum, he would've broken his wrist from the way he was holding it... Not to mention blow his frickin' head off.

WWII helmets were designed to deflect shots, not take point blank shots to the forehead.

Yeah, even bullet proof vests aren't 100% bullet proof. Armor piercing rounds will rip right through them for one, and secondly, enough shots of a standard type is also equally bad. It's highly doubtful he shot that helmet with a real bullet. The gun just didn't seem to have enough recoil.

The better way to test would to get a few of those kind of helmets, and put them on a dummy or something, and then fire various types of ammunition at them to test the strength and durability. ;)
