Ummm... I'm a certified first responder and this guy didn't get everything down right... If you're wanting to learn the correct way...

First, determine responsiveness. If the victim is unresponsive and unconscious, call 911. Next, follow the ABC's...
A=Airway
Head back and chin up tilt. Make sure theres an open airway.

B=Breathing
Look, Listen, and Feel for 10 seconds for breathing. If theres no breathing, give 2 breaths.

C=Circulation
A very important step this guy missed. You don't start giving Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) unless you know the heart isn't already beating. Check the circulation at the Carotid artery for 10 seconds. If there is no pulse, then begin CPR.

The official count as of now, determined by the American Red Cross is 30 chest thrusts for every 2 breaths. Thats pretty much it. Continue CPR until an AED arrives, or at least until the victim can be placed under professional supervision and critical life support...

THERE you GO. Now you're all officially certified!

you blow in air. otherwise you're just stealing the rest of theirs, which is just plain mean.

He missed out the vital bit of shouting "LIVE, DAMN YOU!". Without that, not a chance.

Don go trying this. If your not certified they can sue you if the person dies you can be held responsible for his death because you initiated CPR and were not trained.

this is the NEW way of doing CPR. If there is no sign of circulation (ie movement or breathing, give 2 breaths then IMMEDIATELY to Chest compressions). As an instructor of this new CPR and an Advanced Care Paramedic, this new way of CPR (faster compressions and less emphesis on breaths), I am seeing more people come back with a pulse. As for doing CPR with someone with a heart beating, we have been doing it for years with infants. The body if very resilient.
Very little people will get have any lasting effects if CPR is done with someone with a pulse. But I can guarantee you that no one will survive if you have no pulse and DON'T do CPR. Good Samaritan Acts covers most people that try to help within their scope of practice and knowledge.
Great video and should be mandatory taught subject for everyone - 5/5 for the post.

I used to be a lifeguard over here in the UK, couple of differences to how we do it. First you check for danger, what if the unconscious guy has been electrocuted and is still live and this guy starts patting him? Possibly the only person able to try and save the casualty has himself become a casualty. Secondly, the way he checked for a response by patting the guy on the upper chest could worsen any spinal injury, better idea to tap the tops of the shoulders. The position that the chest compressions were applied seemed a bit guessed. To find the correct position you should find the edge of the rib cage with your middle finger, follow it up to the sternum, place your index finger next to your middle finger and then your palm next to that.

EDIT: Getting sued for trying to help someone is so wrong btw

IN CANADA YOU CAN BE SUED ONLY IF YOU DO NOTHING... THE LAW HERE PROTECT PEOPLE WHO TRY TO HELP. IF YOU DON'T ASSIST SOMEONE YOU CAN FACE A 25 YEARS BREAK...
THIS PREVENT PEOPLE TO DO NOTHING AND LET THE VICTIM DYING JUST IN CASE OF A POSSIBLE SUED.

I seriously hate those trainer AED's, after hearing them over and over you get to wanting to smash the damn things. I had a great instructor when I took my EMT-B course, when the first group was testing she swapped the AED for one that spoke Japanese, priceless expressions followed as it asked politely in Japanese for them to apply the pads.

CPR on a pulseless victim is a pretty simple decision. You miss all the shots you don't take. What's the worst thing that could happen? Reviving them?

Here's CPR for the modern-day guy:
First you poke him with a stick. Then you yell, "Does anyone besides me know CPR?" 'cause you wouldn't want to use your own mouth on him (that'd be gay). The last step of course is you bury him three days later when no one else did know CPR. Using these modified instructions the guy might not live, but at least his hot ass girlfriend is once again single!

Here in california we have the good samaratin law where we are protected if we try to help someone. I work in an emergency room and starting CPR early, no matter how you start it (its all semantics, just get to compressions and breaths) And as far as feeling for where you compress from the UK guy, if you've done it 100 times on patients who are about to die (and most do btw) You don't take the time to do that useless step. You just start.

Amp Epi Amp Atropine, and even then most don't make it.

Hey Vinaccia thats cool that you are a first responder. I am a EMT and you're right this guy is making a huge mistake in his technique. He did everything right BUT palpate a carodid pulse which is very important to do, because if you go pumping on someones chest that doesnt need it (because the heart is working) then you can be messing up that persons heart rythem AND be completely reliable to anything that may happen to that person. ALSO its 30 compressions not thrusts lol that just sounds weird... also, if you dont have a certified CPR card you try to perform CPR you can get in alot of trouble unless their is a protocal in your county/contry that allows it. ANYWAY you know your stuff lol GJ ... btw wheres the pocket valve mask? like seriously nobody does mouth to mouth anymore.
