I'm really confused, did someone loosen all the nuts? Were they even there?
It looked like they might have sheered off...but all 4 wheels at once? Maybe he was using the wrong ones for those wheels... I dunno, like i said... I'm confused.
Any experts/people in the know care to offer their thoughts? I'm quite intrigued.

I don't know why this video keeps getting labeled as drifting. Looks like autocross to me.

Looks like the left rear was the only one with the actual bolts sheared off... the rest of them were normal. Interesting.

don't over-torque your wheels. He probably over-torqued all of them using old/cheap wheel studs. They must have been pretty close to the shear threshold, so when the tire didn't want to break traction it snapped off that wheel, and immediately distributed the weight and traction to the rest of the wheels... which would be over-torqued too and they would suffer the same fate.
It's possible he just never torqued any of them too, so when the wheels shimmied out to the end of the stud, it created enough leverage on it to snap right off. That actually sounds pretty likely too. ...the world may never know...

and that is definitely autocross. Besides the cones and the SCCA t-shirts, In the first frame, you can see a VW in queue and a blue Austin Mini way in back. None of those belong at a drifting event.

1- It's not drifting. It's an autox event. Funny how people see drifting everywhere since the Fast and rediculous 3 movie came out.

2- From what I heard about that incident, the guy used lugnuts that were the wrong size. They were too big but still small enough so the threads still slightly contact each others so he can torque them but the threads just ripped right off as soon as there was too much tension on them because there wasn't enough contact surface.

It's the only theory that could explain all 4 wheels falling off that fast without forgetting to put lugnuts on anyway.
