i think my biggest fear would be that id go upside and wouldnt be able to turn around to open my chute.

^Elderas, certain parachutes are pressure activated so they open when they reach a certain point in the atmosphere.that way, even if you aren't able to open it, the parachutes deployes itself.

baklavafiend it's not the parachute that is pressure activated it is a safty device called an AAD it is there to open your parachute it you are unconscious
Tomster if you where upside down and your chute deployed 9 times out of 10 you would be wiped round by the force of it hitting the wind, skydiving is something that everyone has to try it's amazing, the jumping out a plane bit is not that hard because you have to do so many practices on the ground you kinda go on autopilot cool vid by the way 5/5

^^ no, why should it, the chute is on your back not on top of you head!!! But a head-down chute deployment will hurt like hell and it's also the question if the chute can take it. These freeflyers fall at aprox 200mph, normal belly-down deployment position is 130-150 mph aprox.
The device baklavafiend is talking about would be an AAD (automatic activation device) it's also called a cypress (or argus, vigil....depending what brand of AAD you use, cypress1 or 2 is most common).

No need to envy, just do it yourself, safe some money, go to your nearest dropzone and do a jump then you'll know if your a skydiving-type of person (btw a tandem-jump doesn't count, that's something lame-ass wanna be's do, go for AFF jump). After that save alot more money take the complete AFF-course and become a skydiver.
